Get Lost in a Story welcomes Tina Beckett

Get Lost in a Story Readers,  no matter how hot it is, I need you to stop drooling and take your eyes off these two fabulous covers, because we have a guest.  The author of the Brazilian Brothers duet.  (Honest, you can look at them later, but right now, please welcome Harlequin Medical Author Tina Beckett!)

Two brothers, ripped apart by fate...drawn together by a common thread.

TO PLAY WITH FIRE: Marcos Pinheiro shouldn’t be thinking about colleague Maggie. But her innocent fire has him reliving their one wild, shameless night… Maggie’s heart has been buried for so long – only in Marcos’s arms has she ever felt free from her past demons. But is Marcos’s passion enough to banish the shadows forever?

THE DANGERS OF DATING DR. CARVALHO: When Lucas Carvalho arrives at a hospital with gunshot wounds Sophia recognizes him instantly. Lucas is now a drop-dead gorgeous plastic surgeon, but he still has the same dark, soulful eyes she remembers from their childhood orphanage. Sophia’s determined to keep her distance – Lucas is dangerous for any woman! But can she resist the lure of this bad-boy surgeon…?

DONNELL:  Hi, Tina, welcome to Get Lost in a Story.  Wow, I’m still fanning myself over those covers.  What was your first reaction when you saw them.  Seriously I love them!

TINA: I love them too! Harlequin revamped the covers for their medical line as of January of this year, and I’m seriously in love with the new format.

DONNELL:  Correct me if I’m wrong, but do you live in South America?  Part time, full time?  How does that work?  Are you bilingual?

TINA: I live in Brazil, although we’re in the United States at the moment. I’ve been there for ten years, with periodic visits home to see friends and family (and attend writing conferences). Before Brazil, we lived in Portugal for seven years. So, after seventeen years of living in Portuguese-speaking countries, I hope I can say I’m fluent by now. Although sometimes the two languages (English and Portuguese) get jumbled up in my head, and I speak a weird combination of both, throwing in an English word here...a Portuguese word there. Luckily my family does the same thing, so we still manage to communicate! It does make for some challenges when writing my books, though. You will definitely see a few Portuguese words in these books.

DONNELL:  You write for medical romance.  Do you have a medical background? And don’t you write for other lines?  Do you have a favorite – or is that putting you on the spot?

TINA: I don’t have a medical background, although I thought about going into nursing for a while. But I thrive on medical shows like Mystery Diagnosis, Medical Detectives, Venom ER and a bunch of others. And my family has provided plenty of medical material from their bumps, cuts and broken bones over the years. And yes, they do wind up in my books!

I also write single title romantic suspense for Carina Press. I honestly can’t choose a favorite. They’re both genres that I love reading.

DONNELL:  So I notice that the brothers have different last names?  Can you explain that or do I have to wait to read the book ;)

TINA:  Ah yes, my heroes’ last names. It’s a big part of the overall story. That and a promise the boys made to their father when they were little. After their dad died, the brothers were separated. One was adopted and went to live in the United States, while the other brother remained in Brazil and grew up in an orphanage. The brother in the United States has his adoptive parents’ last name.

DONNELL:  If you could live anywhere on earth, where would it be and why?

TINA: I adore living in Brazil, so I think I would have to stick with that. Although the funny thing is, when I’m there, I miss the United States, and when I’m in the United States, I find myself longing for Brazil. Each country has something that I love. Right now I’m enjoying Girl Scout cookies—thin mints—straight out of the freezer. Yum!

DONNELL: What comes next for Tina Beckett?

TINA: I’m currently working on another medical duet, this time with the amazing Amalie Berlin. The books are set on a ski resort in Colorado and feature lifelong friends who meet on New Year’s Eve to ring in the coming year. Neither realizes that the resolutions they make this year will change their lives forever. I’m having a blast writing my heroine’s story. And Amalie is a hoot. We’ve done a ton of laughing as we’ve batted ideas back and forth.

DONNELL:  Tina, now it’s your turn to ask the reader a question.  And here you can indicate if you’d like to give away a book – no pressure – some authors don’t

TINA: Do you, as readers, like connected books? Why or why not? To one lucky commenter I’ll be giving away a set of...wait for it...connected books! The winner will have their choice of the Brazilian Brothers duet in either e-book format or paperbacks. Good luck!

Thanks for having me, Donnell, I had a blast!

THE DOCTOR’S
MILE-HIGH FLING
Mills & Boon
Medical Romance
ISBN:  0263228754
Three things occur to medical pilot Blake Taylor as Dr Molly McKinna boards his plane:
 1) Why would someone petrified of flying take a job in remotest Alaska?

2) His new colleague is a city girl through and through – this should be interesting!

3) His resolve to be all work and no play is slipping by the minute…!

FLY TO THE UK for a LITTLE of the STORY

THE PATIENT, TINA BECKETT
(she’s not really…she’s my long-time contest buddy)
A three-time Golden Heart® finalist, Tina Beckett writes contemporary medical romances for Harlequin Mills & Boon as well as single title romantic suspense novels for Carina Press. When not in the middle of her latest book, Tina enjoys crafting stained glass panels, riding horses and hiking with her family. Fluent in Portuguese, she divides her time between Brazil and the United States and loves to use exotic locales as the backdrop for many of her stories. You can learn more about Tina at her website or find her hanging out on Facebook or twitter.

ANGI'S NOTE: Just wanted to say how very very happy I am for Tina. For quite a number of years, Tina and I went head-to-head in many contests, including the Golden Heart®. I'm happy as a tail-waggin' pup that she sold. You can see us both in the pic below with Rochelle Staab in Orlando at the GH reception. So...let's get to those fun answers!

PATIENT’S CHART
ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading?
TINA: Wow, I remember so many childhood books, but I think the first ones had to be Dr. Seuss books, especially HOP ON POP. I used to think it was fun to act out the storyline on my poor dad’s stomach (I had the words memorized, after all). I’m sure he didn’t find it quite as amusing, however.

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
TINA: My maternal grandfather was my biggest hero. He taught me how to swim and had an infinite amount of patience in letting me tag along with him everywhere. My grandparents even took me on a road trip that lasted an entire summer—that’s pretty courageous, wouldn’t you say? My middle daughter has pale blue eyes, the exact color of my grandfather’s. It makes me happy to think I’ve passed a little piece of him on to the next generation.

2010 Unsinkable Sisters (all now published):
Rochelle Staab, Angi & Tina Beckett
ANGI: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
TINA: Keith Urban works for just about any situation, I’ve found.

ANGI: What sound or noise do you love?
TINA: I’m a “horsey” person, so I love the soft nicker of recognition that one horse gives to another or to the human he cares about. There’s also something special about riding a horse in frosty weather...the way a strong snort causes a puff of mist to rise from their nostrils. Very familiar and comforting sounds.

ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
TINA: Do I have to choose? I like a little bit of both in my reading material!

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?
TINA: I was an adult when I wrote my first book, actually. I’d run out of English reading material (this was before the days of digital books) and in desperation, I decided to write a romance. The finished product was a real stinker, in all honesty. But the rush I got from writing it matched the emotions I experienced while reading. At that point, I was hooked.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
TINA: Wow, that’s a toughie. I think I have two: When Harry Met Sally and While You were Sleeping. I absolutely loved Bill Pullman’s little half smile and the way his whole face softened whenever he looked at Sandra Bullock. I also loved the scene when they’re walking across the ice, trying to keep the other from falling.
As far as movies go, a HEA is a must for me. My kids will tell you the only movie I’ve ever liked with a less than happy ending was I Am Legend. I’ve never watched the movie Titanic for just that reason—even though my girls have tried multiple times to drag me in front of the screen while it’s playing!

ANGI: Who’s your favorite villain?
TINA: My favorite villain. Hmmm, let’s see. Well that would have to be Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. Anthony Hopkins did a fantastic job with that character. The calm, soothing tone of his voice was so at odds with what the viewer knew he was capable of.

ANGI: What is your biggest vice?
TINA: Ooh. Vices are those things that, while bad for you, are actually too fun to resist, right? Okay. Coffee and chocolate. In that order. Combined, they’re even more deadly. I won’t be giving either of those up any time soon!

ANGI: How is it working with hot guys and sexy women all day?
TINA: It’s just such a hardship, you know...

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: Without any spoilers, tell us about writing your favorite scene. Did you know at the time you were writing? Or did it happen after the book was finished?
TINA’S GOTTA ANSWER: My favorite scene occurs in the first chapter of the book. My heroine is terrified of flying and yet has accepted a job on an island—air travel is mandatory. What was she thinking? Her reaction during that initial flight—and the hero’s response to it—sets the tone for the entire story.
