Description
Description:
What feature would you like to be added?
I would like to request an Automatic Translation feature for tweets.
As a user who frequently reads tweets from different countries, I find the current process of manually clicking the "Translate Tweet" button for each individual tweet to be repetitive and disruptive to my reading flow. An option to have this done automatically would be a significant quality-of-life improvement, making the platform much more seamless for a global audience.
Contributor?
Are you able to help adding this feature?
No.
Priority:
How important/urgent is this feature?
Medium. While the manual translation function exists, this feature would substantially enhance the user experience for anyone following international accounts, saving a lot of time and effort.
Concept:
If you can, link a concept on how you'd like the feature to look/work like.
The implementation could be quite simple and intuitive:
A Setting Toggle: In the app's Settings > Accessibility, display, and languages > Languages section, add a new toggle switch named "Automatically translate Tweets".
Timeline Behavior: When this feature is enabled, any tweet detected to be in a language other than the user's primary interface language will automatically display the translated text directly below the original tweet.
Clarity and Control: To avoid confusion, it should still be clear that the text is a translation. A small label like "Translated from Japanese by Google" could be shown. There should also be a link to "Show original" to easily switch back to the source text if the translation is unclear.
