Pull Request Overview
This PR implements an automated GitHub Actions workflow to manage stale issues in the repository. The workflow will run daily to identify inactive issues and automatically close them after a grace period to help maintain repository hygiene.
- Adds a scheduled workflow that runs daily at 3 AM UTC to process stale issues
- Configures 30-day periods for both marking issues as stale and closing them
- Targets only issues with specific labels while exempting others from automation

I didn't do it in the PR but as a temporary change we can add a workflow_dispatch
trigger and set start-date
value from the input params, and set debug-only
to true
(this enables dry-run).
This way we can see what issues from the past would be marked as stale and therefore see if action/stale
is doing what we want.
Let me know your thoughts.

I could see the value in having the ability to one-shot this in dry-run mode. Though, I think it would only make sense if we are prepared to spend the time and sift through the results.
I wouldn't object to it if you or anyone else feels doing that would be valuable 👍

I'm suggesting this because for the first issue being marked as stale we have to wait for 30 days, at least. We can simply set the time back to the date of an already stale issue in the last few months and see how it works.

That's very fair! I guess my thoughts come from my confidence in actions/stale
, and having seen it in use a lot; I am feeling confident that the changes in this PR will behave as we have described, but I recognize that's just a personal and anecdotal opinion :P I think you should feel empowered to do what you need to increase our collective confidence that this will work as we expect 💯

Actually what I need is to know it works. And I know your Actions muscles are much more powerful than mine. If you think it works, I'm good to merge it as is.

Looks great! Couple of questions outside of the points made by others and the need to create missing label(s)

I am confident in these changes. Exceptionally so by the use of start-date
. I think these changes will produce a slow introduction of the new stale logic for new issues, and I think that's a good thing. We can adjust values as we see fit as we go without impacting a large number of issues.
Great job getting this set up for us! I'm super stoked 🚀
