Hot Love & The Lazy Poet
05:30
|
|||
|
This is the story of a poet I know
He takes it easy and he talks real slow
They call him Lazy but when push comes to shove
Lazy goes crazy for a real hot love
Dirty jeans and a whisky pour he whispers
Quoth the raven nevermore
Hot Love’s on the barroom floor and the poet says, he says
Please don’t groove in the middle of my love connection
I’ve been waiting all night
Just to move in this general direction
Hot Love, sweet nectar above
She’s either queen of the mean or she’s sweet as a dove
Carefully choose all the words you say
And you’ll be getting hot love in each and every way
Lazy knew what he had to do
But all the other poets were coming in too
The poet sat back with his whisky pour and he said, he said
Please don’t groove in the middle of my love connection
I’ve been waiting all night
Just to move in this general direction

Madalena

Madalena
I’ve been looking for a place to lay my head down
I’m tired of always trying to find a way out
Running from this life I know so well
Amarillo
Running lights and empty eyes in limbo
Dreaming with my face against the window
Drifting to the dawn of another day
Falling from above
Further from the sun
From the light of day
Madalena I don’t want to wake up
Just stay a little longer, stay here by my side
We’ll hold the sky up until the night dissolves
And we’ll paint the new horizon with our bleeding hearts
The El Camino
Another night with the Rays out on the Rio
The old town doesn’t throw down like it used to
But Lazy still knows how to raise the dead
You should have seen him
Up all night dancing in a mausoleum
Drugstore wine, preaching to the season
Those ghosts really know how to listen anyway
Fallen from above
Whispering in tongues
If I could find a way I’d say
Madalena I don’t want to wake up
Just stay a little longer, stay here by my side
We’ll hold the sky up until the night dissolves
And we’ll paint the new horizon with our bleeding hearts

Royal
05:55
|

|
Royal was a down home hero
Playing in the Night Ray Band
East of the old foundation
Hungry for the promised land
Chewin’ on a rag time rhythm
Chasing down a dead man’s song
Face to face with a runaway dream
That was waiting for him all along
Come on Royal
Plant those feet in the soil
You’ve been burning like hot black oil
You know that you better slow down
Keep shaking ‘till the day breaks
And all that fire’s gonna to fade to gray
There’s only so much that you can take before you give it all away
Reaching for an occupation
Road house cavalier
A crooked smile old crocodile
Grinning from ear to ear
Dancin’ on a two top singing
Heart beating in his hand
Twisted up bad
Like a wet bar rag
Back on the road again
Come on Royal
Plant those feet in the soil
You’ve been burning like hot black oil
You know that you better slow down
Keep shaking ‘till the day break
And all that fire’s gonna to fade to gray
There’s only so much that you can take before you give it all away
Madalena
I’ve been looking for a way out
But some nights I’ve found solace on my own
Come find me where skyline meets the road
It’s the only place I know

All that you expect from sin
Is hardly worth your while
Let me take your mind my friends
To a place that’s dark and vile
The streets are paved with pestilence
And the children wear no shoes
That’s where you’ll find Turbulence
And his strange exotic stew
Follow the lights in the night to the sound of the bottles and dinner bell
Don’t wait in the line ‘cause you haven't got time before they give it hell
The Night Rays they know how to play
Trained in the deep river blues
Dressed in black and always on time
With nothing but a soul to lose
He picked them up in the back of the bus on the other side of the moon
They were looking to find a little rhythm and rhyme so he gave them a taste of the stew
Turbulence oh Turbulence, we came here for you
You’ve got a great big heart, they want to tear it apart
And sell your soul for rock & roll and a picture on a page
Treat us right and we’ll never go home again
Some say he might fade away
But I’ve seen those eyes shine through
He’s got moves to make the whole town groove
And there’s nothing that he’d rather do
Slow step and a shoulder dip
With the lights burnin’ way down low
It’s high time for another night
Throwing down at the old chateau
Follow the lights in the night to the sound of the bottles and dinner bell
Don’t wait in the line ‘cause you haven't got time before they give it hell

Echo of a Rose
06:26
|
|||
|
In a world of action
I was playing with distractions
Just hoping that the wild might call on me
I woke to a dream
I saw a bees’ nest in a bonsai tree
I fell to my knees and I started to pray that she'd come for me
She headed towards the open door and I froze
Flashing before my eyes in a life I'd never known
With an echo of a rose
She said, take my hand I know a place that we can go
Take these old tied up shoes
I won't be needing them
In my new jungle room
Oh those ivy eyes
Gripping around my spine
Tell me who was I before
She came and pulled me up to space
Looking from far above where I used to wait
For an echo of a rose
She said, take my hand I know a place where we can go

Mr. Action
05:39
|
|||
|
Mr. Action, king of misdirection
Master of deception
You wear your mask so well
Redefining what it means
To be an extra on the scene
He’s died a thousand times for you and me
People wonder where he derives his power
Some say he’s a charmer
Others think it’s the casbah
He always keeps close by
Holds the the tower in his eyes
‘Cause he knows that the story never dies
Take your bow Mr. Action
There’s no question
This one’s for you
It’s been a long time
It’s been a wild ride
But you always see it through
He’s a mystic
Oh you know he’s cryptic
You think you caught a glimpse but you just missed it
A lavender sachet
A little luck along the way
And he knows just how to handle any fate
An ocarina
An ancient blue patina
He plays a song from deep beyond the real world
He says, you’ll never know yourself
Until you dress like someone else
Wear the eyes behind the stories that you tell

Dr. Darkness
05:56
|
|||
|
You might have seen him walking in a thoughtful Sunday stew
Beware my friends you caught a glimpse but he’s always watching you
He operates by night and day with precision on his brow
His patients are the victims to the blinding spell of doubt
When he comes knocking you best not let him in
He’ll hang his feel upon your couch and sell you medicine
He’ll creep and crawl along your floors with resentful residue
When you slip and fall and crack your head he’ll blame it all on you
Doctor Doctor, won’t you let me be?
Please don’t you play these evil tricks on me
‘Cause I’ve been down and I’m sure I know it’s you
That’s been sneaking around inside my head with nothing else to do
Silence is the silhouette of his viral retinue
Slinking slyly through the town this vile unbridled crew
They’re crouching on rooftops, they’re watching every move
When you find yourself in silence they’ve got their hands on you
Doctor Doctor, won’t you let me be?
Please don’t you play those evil tricks on me
‘Cause I’ve been down and I’m sure I know it’s you
That’s been sneaking around inside my head with nothing else to do
Faithful to the laws set forth by pride’s decree
The Doctor has a knack for sewing seeds of jealousy
If you think you’ve got control of your primal destiny
Just look out for the Doctor’s primeval specialty

The Empress of Organos
10:11
|
|||
|
We were livin’ in the hills and trees
Just wheelin’ on an easy breeze
When the sky would open up
We’d stop to fill our cups
With harmony
Left the road and the map behind
Started talkin’ about a different line
Where we were free
Woke to a bad scene one day
And we felt so far away from home
We started dancing in the street
‘Till the Empress stomped her feet and she said, whoa
I’m the Empress of Organos
I’ll tell you where your bad thoughts go
You’ve got the seeds to make them grow
But I’ve locked them up deep down below
If you think you’ve got the golden key
It’s just darkness playing tricks for me
I’ll twist and turn the path you chose
To the shadows of Los Organos
We know you think that you’re powerful
But we’ve got the love and rhythm
You say, looks like rain today
We say, what a day to be livin’
We know you think that you’re powerful
But we’ve got the love and rhythm
You say, looks like rain today
We say, oh what a day to be livin’

Jed Stone
08:03
|
|||
|
Born to the road, fire under his skin
They’d say slow down Jed it’s time to settle in
The heroes were gone and the whiskey wore thin
Jed killed a man and he never came home again
And he’d say, everyday the river grows higher
I can feel the wind blow harder
And each night the fire burns stronger
But the night will always know that I’m just another soul
The people looked on as the devil snuck through
They saw some things a man could never do
And Jed was sworn to a hillside angel
He’d said he’d kill the man who made him let her go
He’d say, everyday the river grows higher
I can feel the wind blow harder
And each night the fire burns stronger
But the night will always know that I’m just another soul
Come on Jed Stone you can rest your sad bones
Down by the riverside
And when you are afraid just close your eyes and drift away
I’ll be waiting just the same, just the same
Born to the road, nowhere left to begin
Just a drifter’s eyes in the face of a southern wind
And he’d say, everyday the river grows higher
I can feel the wind blow harder
And each night the fire burns stronger
But the night will always know that I’m just another soul
Come on Jed Stone you can rest your sad bones
Down by the riverside
And when you are afraid just close your eyes and drift away
I’ll be waiting just the same, just the same

Rockdale

Goin’ down, goin’ down
Gonna find another way
Goin’ down, goin’ down
As my old man would say
Gotta shake that ball and chain
Gotta turn the wheels and go
Goin’ down, goin’ down
Gonna hear the music play
Gonna leave it on the floor
Gonna dance these blues away
When the good ol’ boys start pickin’
Gonna turn the night to the day
Going down to the Rockdale
Gonna lay it all down for you
Leave your coat at the hotel
We’ll be hanging in the old barroom
Lock the doors, feed the hounds
We’ll be at least a day or two
Grab the bottle, make my rounds
‘Till there’s nothing left to do
The glass jar with the money
Honey how ‘bout dancing shoes?
Going down to the Rockdale
Gonna lay it all down for you
Leave your coat at the hotel
We’ll be hanging in the old barroom
I don’t know if we’ll ever go home again
The open road’s got me thinking like a different man
Fifteen miles to the places we might go
So I’ll lend my ears to the wind
Going down to the Rockdale
Gonna lay it all down for you
Leave your coat at the hotel
We’ll be hanging in the old barroom
Going down to the Rockdale
Gonna lay it all down for you
One night to live for
And the sun will be rising soon

Factory Fiction

I don’t mind sneaking around while the steel teeth grind
It’s a risk I know but it’s better than the consolation
And I don’t mind that things get a little weird sometimes
It’s a long way to go for an apparition
It’s alright that all the freaks want to come at night
And swim around in the beautiful isolation
But in the broad daylight
All the people want to talk what’s right
And shake their heads while looking for an explanation
The beast inside that breathes the life you wish you’d never known
On your way to kill the beast you meet the child the only one you know
And he sings to you, “Let go, may the nighttime be your home”
