27K views · 5.8K reactions | Did you know you can grow your own lemon grass and half the work is already done by the supermarkets. Get it home and remove one leaf layer or sheath. Partially fill a glass of water, stick it in and leave it in a warm windowsill. In a day or so you’ll notice the plant starting to grow from the tip and in a few more days you’ll see roots and leaves forming. Stick them in a pot of damp compost and you’re now growing your own lemon grass that you can harvest when you like. | The Mediterranean Gardener | Facebook

a man sitting in front of a pond next to a sign that says, chrysn cum's bloom 2x a year
189K views · 4.1K reactions | Chrysanthemum’s Bloom 2x A Year! | 🌼 Chrysanthemums, or mums, are vibrant flowers that bloom twice a year – in spring and fall. With a variety of colors and sizes, they're perfect for... | By Smith's Gardentown | What is this? This is a mum but it's spring time but we have mum blooming in the landscape. How's that possible? See, I told you guys back in the fall that once your chrysanthemums is done blooming, don't throw it in the trash. You can take it and plant it out in your flower beds and it will come back and bloom again the following year and they usually bloom twice which is what's cool about them. You see, mums are a perennial but not only that, they are what we call a photo periodic plant. That means that decide to bloom based on the ratio of dark to light. And that triggering moment that will allow these mums to bloom happens twice a year. It happens in the spring and in the fall. But most people throw their mums away and so they don't get to see that beautiful spring bloom that they get which can be every bit as beautiful as their bloom in the fall. Now once this plant is completely done blooming which is usually around early summer or June or July you can actually come in and give this thing a haircut. So what that would mean is you would take your scissors and go in and cut it about in half. And that's going to essentially restart it and then it will grow and look beautiful again for that amazing fall bloom which you bought it for the year before. And that's really the only maintenance that you will have on these plants is give them a haircut in the summer and then give them a haircut in the winter once that foliage turns brown and you'll have beautiful mums for years to come.

Keep pruning as it grows, and you’ll be harvesting armfuls of fragrant basil before you know it. Eventually, you can let it bloom for the pollinators—or keep pinching to extend your harvest even longer. 🌿 Want my step-by-step basil growing guide?
