The monastery is located on 2,300 acres of land and offers visitors to get away from it all, slow down, and experience a different pace of life. It’s a place for reflection, rest, prayer, meditation, and to worship God and study the word. The website encourages visitors to retreat, rest, reflect, and renew. Admission is free and you can walk the trails and prayer walk, visit the museums, gift shop, cafe, purchase some monk made candles, baked goods, fudge, and honey, and explore the grounds. There are also guided tours offered here. Brothers from Gethsemani Abbey settled on this old cotton plantation called Honey Creek in 1944. There’s also community services offered here like a food bank, as the brothers had more than just solitude and prayer in mind, they also wanted this to be a place of community and hospitality. I highly recommend visiting this place, whether you are spiritual or not, to unwind, learn, and reflect. If you want to make a day of it, you can also visit other attractions located in the massive Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.
