The 8 Foods That Negatively Impact Your Skin Health - Dr. Eric Berg DC | The 8 Foods That Negatively Impact Your Skin Health - Dr. Eric Berg DC | By Dr. Eric Berg DC - Your Doctor | Let's discuss the eight worst foods for your skin. So typically if a person has a skin problem, they may go to a dermatologist, right? And they get a diagnosis and then they get a treatment maybe some type of steroid cream or something to reduce inflammation or maybe they don't. They might just cover up the skin problem with some type of makeup or use some type of cream or some type of remedy. Today, I'm going to talk about some real common things that people ingest that cause the problem so then you can avoid it it's not normal to have all these skin problems right and so if your biochemistry is messed up or your hormones are altered the thing to focus on is what you're inputting into the machinery into your body alright so let's start from the top number one you have low fat foods okay Let me explain this and this relates to some of the other points as well but 50% of your cells, I'm talking about the membrane of your cells especially in the skin are made out of saturated fat. So, we've been told so many times to avoid saturated fat and we replace those with other types of fat or go low fat and that is one way to make your skin look very unhealthy. Saturated fat is totally okay to eat as long as you don't add all the other things that come with it like sugars and things like that and also if you can digest the fat too, If you have your gallbladder removed for example, that might be an issue. In which case you just have to take some BioSalts. But also what is in fat? You have all the fat soluble vitamins. Which are really important for your skin. You got vitamin A which is essential for your skin. You have vitamin D very important as an anti-inflammatory. Vitamin E is an important antioxidant. You have also vitamin K. And number two is of course the obvious sugary foods. If you have acne and you want to get rid of your acne. Most of the all you have to do is get rid of the sugar because the sugar increases the insulin and insulin increases androgens that enlarge your sebaceous glands the oil glands that are involved with acne and it includes the obvious stuff like don't drink your sugars and I'm not just talking about sodas I'm talking about like juice like fruit juices the worst it's just your pure sugar it's all pasteurized which is sterilized it's equivalent to drinking a soda just take a look at a diabetic what kind of skin do they have they have a of issues of skin not just on their face but throughout their body in their lower ankles they have these little black and blue spots they might have this pigmentation issue around the the neck area the folds of underneath their arms sometimes they have a higher incidence of polycystic ovarian syndrome where they have more acne they get a higher instance of skin tags brown spots because of all the oxidation that's occurring with the high sugars number three grains and the thing that they make out of grains called alcohol. Some people are going to disagree. They're like, oh yeah, whole grains are really good for the skin. Really, so what part of that grain is good for the skin. Is it the gluten that ends up creating bowel issues that then creates all sorts of problems with your skin, psoriasis, eczema, even other autoimmune diseases on the skin itself. You got lectins in these grains and not to mention they're they turn into sugar and that will increase the blood sugars and create those other issues we talked about in number two. Grains are also high in omega-6 fat acids. Omega-6 fatty acids are inflammatory. And so they're not good for your skin. They're not good for your gut. Your skin is a really good reflection of your liver. If you have poor skin chances are your liver's not doing well. Number four. Which kind of relates to number three. Vegetable oils. Now it sounds like you take these vegetables and you're squeezing them and making this healthy oil. But really it's a grain seed oils or just seed oils and gem that's how they make the vegetable oils so that would be the corn oil the soy oil the canola oil the cotton seed oil these are really badly processed they have solvents in them and they create inflammation of your skin and they compete for the omega-3 fatty acids which you need as an anti inflammatory because if you look at like a really important food for your skin people say well salmon you know things high in omega-3 fatty acids caliber oil well guess what if you're taking omega6 they compete so there's competition so you're not going to get the absorption of omega three. Number 5, processed protein. As in soy protein isolates or even hydrolyzed soy protein. Now you're going to see on if you do a search on Google like oh yeah it's really good for the skin. Well I know first hand just dealing with a lot of patients who have gone on diets with the soy protein isolates and you're consuming something very unnatural. A highly processed super low fat plant based protein that I've noticed that a person may benefit from maybe some weight loss man when they lose weight they don't look good dries out their skin their hair they look older I'm talking about this diet which is low carb it's called ideal protein they use very poor quality proteins and that's what soy protein is it's a lower quality not very bioavailable protein I mean maybe it might be good for animals certain animals like horses and things like that if they need more protein because it's a legume I mean horses are not carnivore they're vegan and so are cows and sheep and goats but when humans start doing this processed protein powder there's some side effects if you look at the side effects from soy protein isolates you get bloating skin problems skin allergies headaches indigestion food retention 0 BCD and I'm not kidding that was one of the side effects as well as diabetes I mean look it up very interesting I recommend doing a quality very natural protein like eggs fish seafood grass-fed meats things like that but eggs especially the yolk is really really high in vitamin A it's a great source of protein you realize that there's more protein in the egg yolk per volume than there is in the egg white interesting alright number six a lot of people have skin problems due to milk and even whey protein powder why because this milk is meant to grow an animal and then when you consume it or products Sometimes those hormones can affect the sebaceous gland and give you problems with your acne. So milk may be a problem for you. Next one on the list is low antioxidant foods, okay? Like let's say you don't consume any vegetables or you're doing white bread or you're doing processed food or you're doing junk food. All of those don't have antioxidants and the antioxidants in the food that normally comes with healthy food not just vegetables but even grass-fed meats have antioxidants as well. All of that protects the skin against damage like from the sun, from pollution, all these things and even from eating sugar and when you're on the sun and you don't have enough these antioxidants, you might be at risk for getting skin cancer and more problems with the skin. So, it's the antioxidants that protect the skin and number eight, gut flora destroying foods. That would be like the artificial sweeteners, sterile foods like box food, Foods, canned foods, pasteurized, you know, juices, and other foods, refined foods, soups, things like that. Things that have a long shelf life. When you destroy the gut flora, you end up with rosacea, that's that red cheeks and your skin does not look that great and so your microbes live on fiber and so a wide variety of different plants like salads combined with protein would be a really good combination for helping your skin. So, the variety of vegetables in your salad also increase the diversity of microbes which can help you. So when you have this low fat processed plant-based protein powder and think it's really good for your skin you might want to think twice. The skin does really well on higher amounts of fat, lower amounts of sugar, nutrient dense with lots of phytonutrients. Now a couple of things that can really help your skin. I've talked about this in other videos. Fasting. Fasting increases autophagy. Autophagy cleans out the old damaged cells of your body and rejuvenates your skin and other tissues in the body. Fasting also increases the diversity of your microbiome which is interesting. The sun is good skin as long as you don't get burnt, you need that vitamin D for the skin and if you ever see people that don't get any sun, the skin does not look that healthy. So, you want to get some sun but not to the point of being burnt. Cod liver oil is my go-to supplement. It has not just vitamin A which is essential for the skin but omega-3 as well and vitamin D all together. Whereas fish oils don't have the vitamin A, only the omega-3 fatty acids. Stress reduction very important I have noticed people have skin problems just by going through a lot of chronic stress so do what you can to eliminate the stress and also to counter that I would do more exercise as well that can help release a lot of the built up stress that you have and of course the obvious things like decrease smoking smokers usually have aged skin and people who drink even the wine it ages the skin prematurely so this give you a good starting point to really have healthy vibrant skin so you don't end up at the dermatologist office and you don't have to cover up different skin problems now I have another video on what foods to eat to prevent wrinkles if you haven't seen that one I put it up right here check it out

The Ultimate Face Transformation–Dr. Berg's Best Remedy for Dry Skin and Wrinkles - Dr. Eric Berg DC | The Ultimate Face Transformation–Dr. Berg's Best Remedy for Dry Skin and Wrinkles - Dr. Eric Berg DC | By Dr. Eric Berg DC - Your doctor | Let's talk about the ultimate face remedy for both wrinkly and dry skin. The skin is the largest organ in the body and anything that you put on the skin gets absorbed inside into the body eventually through the liver and it's amazing what types of things people put on their skin. I mean, just all sorts of chemical lotions and makeup, you name it. They scrub the skin. They sterilize it. You have friendly bacteria on your skin, right? And if you sterilize it, skin becomes red it dries out or sometimes it becomes too oily so it's very important to understand not to put anything on your skin that could be toxic compound that with pollution if someone's you know smoke second hand smoke or let's say you smoke and all that goes into the body I mean you have fluoride and chloride in your shower with it you know hitting your skin you have the sun's UV radiation that damages the skin and then on top of that you have all the stuff that you eat you know and drink like alcohol or consumption of trans fats, all that goes into the body and it can greatly affect the skin. I think one of the worst things for the skin is going on a low-fat diet because skin is mainly protein and fat and I remember in practice when I would see people come in that are low fat diet even on the keto diet and they're on low fat as in the ideal protein where they're using this low carb and extremely low-fat diet and of course ingredients are poor like I think they use soy protein isolates as their protein I notice very quickly the person starts looking older not just their skin but their hair they just age the more junk food that we eat the faster the aging of our skin what is ultra processed food well now they synthesize corn to turn that into corn sugar or high fructose corn syrup so you have the synthesize synthetic sugars you have these synthetic starches right corn starches and then you have something probably even more deadly which is the oils the C oils. Highly industrialized, highly refined, very unstable oil that tends to create a lot of oxidation in the body. I mean, it creates inflammation in the inside of the arteries, in the organs, and the different tissues and what about on the skin, right? The thing about these oils is it gets lodged into our membranes in our skin and it stays in there for two and a half to three years and so when you have too much of these seed oils, right? That's omega okay and not enough of the omega-3 oils that's like fish oils or cod liver oil you start developing flaky dry red skin because they both compete with each other and I'm talking about like soy oil corn oil canola cotton seed oil safflower oil sunflower oil these are all highly processed oils with the eu solvents like hextane they deodorize it decolorize it I mean a lot of these omega-6 oils like like sunflower oil for example are in creams fish creams. It's going to dry out your skin. It's going to make your skin older. So you also want to make sure there's no alcohol in your skin creams. So in the last 100 years we basically have been increasing the seed oils in our diet to a factor of 1600% more and even the last 20 years we've doubled the amount of seed oils. Highly inflammatory oxidizes the skin. In fact I'm thinking about doing like a a 30 day seed oil detox. I'm going to call it an oil change, right? Just to see how many health benefits would happen not just with your skin but the whole body by just avoiding these oils for a short period of time. What would be the thing to put on the skin? Well, are you sitting down for this? Grass-fed Talo. That's actually be fat. Now, before you click off, just hear me out. It might sound disgusting but the chemistry of Talo is very similar to the chemistry a part of your skin. In fact, the Latin word for talo means sebum. That's like the oil that your body produces, the skin oil. Talo will not oxidize the skin. It will not cause inflammation. It has vitamin A, D, E, K. It also has something called CLA which tends to retain moisture in the skin and talo is not like a coconut oil which will make your skin really greasy and oily. It gives your skin a very nice softness, a healthy glow, and a lot of the nutrients in this Talo can also help some of the dark spots as well in the skin and help wrinkles. You should just try it for a week and just see what happens. Now, as far as the type of fat that's in here, you have about 50% of its actual saturated fats. You also have olaic acid, okay, which is a really good moisturizer. You have palmetic acid which softens the skin. You also have steric acid which repairs the skin and then you have little laic acid that said omega-6 but it's only like two percent. So, it's very very small numbers. So, I'm not recommending a certain brand of Talo but you can just look at the reviews and and just read what people are reporting but you start using Talo on your skin instead of regular chemical moisturizers with omega-6 oils and you're going to see a huge huge change and there's no chemicals in it and it's kind of a forgotten secret because we used to use this long ago but then we replaced it because someone came up with this idea that oh saturated fat is bad for us. No, unsaturated fats in the quantities that we're consuming them and then the type of these unsaturated fats that we're using is just so unhealthy. So, if you did combination of two things. Just get rid of the these omega-6 seed oils out of your diet and you start using talo on your skin and you start consuming fish oils or cod liver oil for the omega-3, within a matter of weeks. I think you're going to see a huge shift in your skin. So, go ahead and try this and then comment down below and if you have not seen my video on how to address dry wrinkly hands, I put that video right up here. Check it out.

The #1 Deficiency Behind Aging Spots | Are those aging spots a sign of a mineral deficiency? 🧐 Learn how addressing this could rejuvenate your skin! For more health information you can't find... | By Dr. Eric Berg | It's a lack of this one mineral that's causing your aging spots. Now, what's an aging spot? Aging spots are also called liver spots which are not really caused by the liver necessarily but if you have a bad liver, you probably have similar skin problems. So today, I'm going to talk about where they come from, how to get rid of them, why do they develop kind of patches around different places in your body. Are they dangerous? Are they going to turn into skin cancer? I'm going to cover all that. Now, of everyone over the age of 60 has these blemishes. So, I am 59, I have something to look forward to next year. What we're really dealing with with this darkened spot is melanin. Melanin is a pigment that's behind the color of your skin, the color of your hair, the color of your eyes, and one of the big purposes of melanin is to protect you against a certain type of radiation called UV radiation because UV can create damage in our skin cells, especially the DNA, our body Has created over a long period of time this umbrella that is a protective thing against the cells to protect the DNA against damage and so one of the big things that will trigger more melanin production is more UV radiation. The catch 22 is that we also make vitamin D through this UV radiation when it hits our skin and so melanin is a pigment. It's like a natural sunscreen it blocks UV and that's going to also block your production of vitamin D. Now, one of the problems with these blemishes is the treatment that you get when you go to the doctor. They'll do all sorts of chemical treatments, bleaching treatments, laser treatments, synthetic vitamin A, all these different remedies which have side effects but don't worry, I'm going to give you a natural solution that does not have any side effects. Another interesting Point about melanin is that it's not necessarily evenly distributed through their skin. There are certain areas that have more than others. Why is it when someone is younger and they're exposed to the sun, they don't necessarily get those little blotches all through the face, those aging spots or liver spots yet when we get older, we have more of those. Why is that? That's because as our skin ages, it becomes less efficient in regulating melanin and so we really this overcompensation where our body actually makes more melanin in certain spots and not others and one of the things I want to bring up right now is that when you get UV radiation on your skin, you're getting a lot of free radical damage. Another term for that is oxidative stress probably didn't help you understand it but it's basically a type of stress that occurs at the cellular level and so both from our diet, we have antioxidants and also from our we make antioxidants to help neutralize all of that oxidative stress but the reason I wanted to bring up this word oxidative stress is because oxidative stress is another trigger of melanin. It increases more pigmentation just like UV radiation and there's other things that can create more pigmentation as well. One thing is when you go through pregnancy, you have a higher amount of estrogen and progesterone. That can do it. Also, being a diabetic. Because high levels of insulin also activate melanin this is why with the diabetic especially in different places in their body like the fold around their neck the crease around their neck or underneath their armpit or around their elbows they have this darkened skin that's because of insulin. Inflammation in general can cause this pigmentation to be greater. Certain drugs can also increase melanin like certain drugs that help get your heart in rhythm and even stress can do it as well. I don't know if you've ever seen any of my is that when I talk about high levels of cortisol develop a certain body shape and sometimes I also mention a low level of cortisol where the person is very very thin and very very tan but they have no immune system. So in other words, there's a lot of things in addition to UV light that can create this pigmentation in your skin but I just want to make clear what melanin really does. It absorbs UV and it neutralizes the damage by dispersing it through the body and turning it into heat actually like ninety-nine point nine percent of UV light is filtered out by this melanin. Now, let's talk about how to undo this overcompensation of melanin happening in your skin. Now, I looked up four different patents related to using natural things to get rid of aging spots or liver spots. One patent had a combination of vitamin C, grape seed extract, and zinc. Another one had licorice extract. It had certain berries all mixed into a cream and then when you look into the research on some of these natural things, there's a significant effect using zinc and selenium on aging spots and that's one that I would recommend a little bit more and I'm going to tell you why right now. First of all, zinc is good for everything related to your skin. It's involved in hundreds of different enzyme reactions, biochemical pathways, and it's really considered a a very powerful antioxidant and it has the ability to naturally lower this excess melanin production. Now, if you combine zinc with selenium, I think you have a very powerful one two punch because selenium is the precursor for glutathione which is one of the most powerful antioxidants in your cells and when I say antioxidants, I'm talking about something that gets rid of oxidative damage. The thing that could be actually creating this problem in the first place and also zinc greatly reduces oxidative damage as well. Of these together can significantly reduce this overcompensation of melanin as well as get rid of some of the triggers that are creating it both of these trace minerals because you don't only need them in small amounts also help you protect DNA so they have a similar purpose to vitamin D which by the way vitamin D alone is very very important as well in this condition and it's really kind of a test 22 because here you are trying to get more vitamin D on the sun but you're getting more UV as well until melanin kicks in there and it kind of protects you against the UV but then now you're not going to get enough vitamin D. So, I think a balance of some sun to get your vitamin D but not too much where you burn is going to be the solution but on the internal part of your body, your zinc levels, your selenium levels, which by the way, a lot of people are deficient in both of these could be the reason why you're having this overcompensation because the body doesn't have enough antioxidants in the skin to counteract this UV radiation so it has to overcompensate with melanin which is acting like an antioxidant. So, there's two ways to get more zinc and selenium. One is to find some cream with it. I would recommend taking them as a supplement and taking them in a blend of other trace minerals because that way they go on the inside of the body and they end up in your skin eventually and like I said before, a lot of people are deficient in zinc and selenium and they're two really important trace minerals for your immune system and also to increase other antioxidants that can help protect you at the skin level and at different levels. Now, since I mentioned zinc, if you have not seen this video on zinc, I think it'd be very wise to watch it. Check it out.
