Riveting the body to the soapbox derby. The integral strength of the car was greatly increased by the sheet metal skin. Bob Gravett, the original designer and builder of the original "Old Number 7" operated a sheet metal stamping company as an adult. One of the many benefits resulting from the early Soap Box Derby idea.

Steering arm and tie rods; the steering rod is a 3/8" steel rod, and the tie rods are 5/16"x24 threaded rod with ball joints on both ends, and are connected to the steering rod with a steel plate.
