Christmas, and it's Almost July!

Hello, Everybody!  We are having record breaking temperatures here in St Louis- 107 for the high-so staying in is definitely preferred today!  I made a quick card for today's Ways to Use It Challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers.  The challenge was to make something with a child on it, for a child or, inspired by a child.  I had this great image from Stampin' Up's Greeting Card Kids set already colored so I decided to use that for this Christmas card.

I am really happy with how this turned out.  The card base is Pink Pirouette, the dsp is retired.  The image is stamped on Naturals White and colored with the Aquapainter using Real Red, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, Pretty in Pink, and Pool Party reinkers.  The Curly Cute sentiment is stamped in Stazon black.  Snowflakes from the retired "Snowflakes" set is stamped in Versamark and embossed with clear ep.  The image panel is mounted on Raspberry Ripple and an edgelit was used.  Tiny pearls are placed between each scallop.  A white Baker's Twine bow finishes it off with a retired Rose Red button in the center of it.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you stay cool and have a blessed day!

I was able to sneak in a little more crafting this evening and decided to try the sketch at The Paper Players this week.
Here is my interpretation-

It was difficult getting a good picture of this card as I wanted to be able to get the shiny clear embossing on the Naturals White panels while still having good lighting for the card as a whole.  This was a fun card to make and I tried a new technique as well, emboss resist with a twist.  I sponged a piece of Naturals White with Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder and then stamped the snowflake in Versamark and used clear embossing powder on it.  I then sponged Concord Crush over the entire image/inked area.  This I then cut in a circle and paper pierced along the inside of the circle, around the snowflake.  The two Naturals White panels were dry embossed; I then rubbed a Versamark pad over it and used clear embossing powder on it to give the panels a shiny/icy look.

To make this card I used-
Stamps-Snowflakes, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper-Concord Crush, Wisteria Wonder, Pool Party, Naturals White
Ink-Versamark, Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder, Concord Crush, Basic Gray
Other-Dimensionals, clear embossing powder, scallpp edge punch, polka dots embossing folder, spellbinder
I really wanted this to be an "all Stampin' Up" card, but could not resist using the spellbinder behind the snowflake image.
Thanks for stopping by!

P.S.  Apparently, it hit at least 110 degrees here in St Louis today!

An Out of This World Birthday

I tweaked this card from an earlier one I did this week for Operation Write Home.  Once I got the layout down I decided to "amp it up" a bit.  I really liked this stamp set, Little Boys Toys from Sweet N Sassy Stamps, when I spotted it, knowing it would be great for paper piecing.
The card base is SU Night of Navy; the edge is cut with an SU edgelit and embossed with their new embosslit.  The other 3 edges of the card are scored with the Simply Scored from SU.  I improved my clouds from the first card, making them whispy and ethereal, rather than "day time" fluffy.  After all, this is space!  They are lightly inked around the edges.  The moon is Barely Banana and embossed with a CB ef.  The edges are sponged with So Saffron.

The spacecraft is scrap dp and parts of it are layered on pop dots.  This makes such a difference from the original flat, single layer card.
Thanks for stopping by!  As always, your comments and constructive criticisms are welcome and appreciated.

Back again, this time with the latest challenge from the OWH blog skip.  The challenge is to make a Clean and Simple (or CAS) card.  I took my inspiration from Sheila on the blog skip.   This CAS technique is to cut mulitples of a single die or punch and glue the layers together, creating what I call a faux chipboard piece.
In this case, I cut 2 flourishes in white followed by the top layer in Very Vanilla.  For the "flower", or Spellbinder scalloped circle die, I cut 5 in white and the top layer in Very Vanilla.  The edges of the card are scored. The sentiment is stamped in an old SU stamp from All Year Cheer.
I love this technique- it is easy and fun, albeit time-intensive.  Using this technique gives you a great monochromatic card.

Thanks for stopping by!  As usual comments are greatly appreciated!

A Little Spring in Winter

So, it is a very dreary day here in St. Louis- seemed like a great time to "Think Spring" and participate in the OWH challenge, making a spring or Easter card. I started to go with a floral card, but then I remembered these adorable chicks from Stampin Up- Best of Cluck!  This is on of my favorite all time sets, so this is what got the ink for today's challenge.  I also took the challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches and used the current sketch, #18.

Ingredients for the card include:
  • SU paper- Pool Party, Pretty in Pink, Barely Banana and Whisper White
  • Teeny Tiny Wishes,Best of Cluck SU stamps
  • Stampin Up's latest and greatest edgelits and embosslits
  • Copics
  • ribbon
  • CB embossing folder
  • adhesive pearls
It is so hard to get a good picture with true colors and all on an overcast, gray day.  Sorry for the poor picture quality!  Thanks for stopping by!

Woo Hoo! Got Internet!

I know this may sound odd.  Doesn't everybody have internet?!  Well, I have been without for about 3 years and just got it today!  Can you tell I am excited?  No more driving down to the nearest Panera to access their wifi.  I can upload at my leisure and check out challenges any time of day.  This is the life!  Today's card is a valentine that I made for my son.  I hope it is masculine enough.  There are some flowers on the Stampin UP designer paper, Twitterpated.  But, the basic colors are pretty masculine.  Additionally, my son loves dogs.
I used all Stampin Up paper- Crumb Cake, Basic Grey and the dp.  The grey paper was scored with the Simply Scored tool and then I die cut the card edge(both grey and crumb cake) with Stampin Up's new edgelits.
I added the Twitterpated dp to the inside bottom of the card(with the top edge also die cut with the edgelit).  The cute dog image was colored with Copics and backed with pretty in pink cardstock. Isn't he cute? I finished off the card with crumb cake seam binding at the top of the card. Thanks for looking!
