lyrics
Underneath the blackened sky
Beholding the sight that is shown
Questioning reality
Ascending into the unknown
A mental corrosion
All memory scattered
A fragile existence
Broken and shattered
Can it be all for nothing
Can't be sure if I'm dead or alive
Can it be all for nothing
Show me what it means to live again
Disappeared without a trace
The path that's been long overgrown
Trapped in disreality
Descending into the unknown
Hold onto me tightly
Don't let me expire
Like some victim of circumstance
My calling is dire
Can it be all for nothing
Can't be sure if I'm dead or alive
Can it be all for nothing
Show me what it means to live again
Pictures of a life once lived
Watching through a faulty lens
Please take my hand for I am blinded
Please lift the darkness from my eyes
Slipping away from all that I am
Please take this suffering from my mind
Transient memories flashing before me
No semblance of what once was, only confusion
Transient memories flashing before me
Falling away within this illusion
Can it be all for nothing
Can't be sure if I'm dead or alive
Can it be all for nothing
Show me what it means to live again
Show me what it means to live again
I bought this album expecting doom, got an album full of eclectic heavy rock that is closer to American bands like Mastodon than British Doom ala Cathedral. Still, the vocals are absolutely gorgeous, the production is lush and punchy, the melodies ebb and flow. This album is a like a warm blanket on a cold winter's evening. And yes, there are nods to that classic British doom sound dispersed throughout the album. Not quite what I had expected, but a fantastic album nonetheless. Jan
I’m a huge nerd and knew I would love this album simply from the name of the band. Shai-Hulud was the first track I heard and it remains my favorite, its deep and droning sound is just fucken awesome. Complete Obliteration comes in at a close second for the favorites. God I could kiss that guitar tone on its personified mouth! TerraqueousIdeology
A desire to see Psychlona led me to their gig in Bradford in support of The Obsessed. (Bloody marvellous).
So...I looked up The Obsessed (and thereafter Saint Vitus too) and I've been having a great time getting into the slow and heavy stuff so reminiscent of early Black Sabbath albums. Gilded Sorrow does the slow and heavy but also "upbeat with weight and grit," songs which sound full of lived experience and conviction.
Favourite track: Jailine. thejonx
