Everything You Need to Track Your Training

Designed for lifters who want more than a basic notes app.

📝

Customizable Plans

Create your own training plans or use built-in templates. Define exercises, set/rep schemes, warm-ups, back-off sets, and progression rules. Everything is configurable.

📈

Automatic Progression

When you hit all your prescribed reps, the weight increases for your next workout. After consecutive failures, a smart deload kicks in, so you never have to calculate what to lift next.

🏋

50+ Built-in Exercises

Pre-loaded exercises organized by category with equipment types (barbell, dumbbell, machine/cable). Type any custom exercise name and pick your equipment type.

Rest Timer Between Sets

Counts up from zero with your target rest displayed as a reference. Runs in the background via notification when you minimize the app, so you never lose track of rest time.

🏆

Personal Record Tracking

Every set is compared against your historical best for each exercise. New PRs are highlighted after your workout so you can celebrate every milestone.

🔥

Workout Streaks

Track your consistency with workout streaks that adapt to your schedule. Configure training days and never miss tracking a workout. Make-up days keep your streak alive.

Built-in Training Plans

Start immediately with a proven program, or clone and customize to make it your own.

🚀

Linear Progression

Add weight every workout, the simplest, most effective approach for beginners and early intermediates. Workout A and B rotate with core barbell lifts.

💪

Madcow 5×5

A ramping 5×5 program for intermediate lifters. Weight increases weekly across ascending sets. Push your limits while managing fatigue.

🎯

Push Pull Legs

A bodybuilding-style split rotating push, pull, and leg days. Perfect for lifters who want higher volume and exercise variety across the week.

How It Works

Getting started takes less than two minutes.

1

Pick a Plan

Choose from Linear Progression, Madcow 5×5, or Push Pull Legs, or build your own custom plan from scratch. Set your starting weights and you're ready to go.

2

Log Your Sets

During your workout, tap each set to record actual reps and weight. Warm-up sets are pre-calculated. Rest timers count up between sets. It's fast and stays out of your way.

3

Let Progression Handle the Rest

Complete your prescribed reps and the weight goes up next time. Miss them and the app tracks failures, triggering a deload when needed. You lift; the app does the math.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you start.

Is Gym Notes free?
Yes, Gym Notes is completely free with no feature limits. Every training plan, automatic progression scheme, rest timer, and workout stat is available. An optional Remove Ads subscription hides the two short interstitial ads shown at the start and end of a workout, but you get the full training experience either way.
What training plans are built in?
Gym Notes ships with three built-in plans: Linear Progression (add weight every session, perfect for beginners), Madcow 5×5 (ramping weekly progression for intermediate lifters), and Push Pull Legs (a bodybuilding-style split). You can also create custom plans or clone and modify any built-in plan.
Can I add my own exercises?
Absolutely. In addition to 50+ built-in exercises organized by category, you can type any custom exercise name. You choose the equipment type (barbell, dumbbell, or machine/cable), which controls bar-weight rules and weight-stack display behaviour.
Is there a mobile app?
Android and iOS apps are coming soon. In the meantime, Gym Notes works great as a progressive web app on mobile browsers. Just open it on your phone and add it to your home screen. Sign up below to get notified when the native apps launch.
How does automatic progression work?
When you complete all prescribed reps on your work sets for an exercise, the weight increases automatically for your next workout. After consecutive failures (configurable, default 3), a deload triggers, reducing the weight by your configured percentage (default 10%) so you can build back up and break through plateaus.
