Pocket Messiah Oh, when you walked into the room, I saw the light come in with you. And in the shadows that fled, I detected a darkness running with you. And when you get down and pray, Don't have to lay down for anyone. You got a pocket messiah, Rocking and rolling you. You got a pocket messiah, Rocking and rolling you. All my money's gone, It don't matter none. My love is so strong for you, I wrote a song for you. I'll be the bird in your hand, Singing a redemption song. It flies like fire, you know the words, Sing to glory, you got soul, And your love is strong. Oh, to feel that golden day, hear the sound, Here and now, as a matter of faith. And I suspect there's no end to doubt, You're never ready, But you move ahead anyhow, anyway, yeah yeah yeah.. You got a pocket messiah, Rocking and rolling you. You got a pocket messiah, Rocking and rolling you. You got a pocket messiah, A pocket messiah, A pocket messiah, Rocking and rolling you. ©La La Ltd (ASCAP) by Happy Chichester

New Ways* 03:31
New Ways You’re finding new ways. Always finding new ways, Of killing me. You keep killing me. Keep killing me. You keep finding new ways. Always keep finding new ways. Killing me, Keep killing me, You keep killing me You keep.. Why? Why do you keep killing me? Keep killing me, Just finding new ways. Keep killing myself, While you keep killing me. I’m killing myself, Here while you, keep killing me. Keep killing me. Is that all you do? I rest my case. Oh, Lord. I rest my case in you. You keep on killing me. You got to fend for you. You got to fend for you. You keep killing me.. I know what you’re doing tonight. I know what you’re doing tomorrow, And the next day, You keep finding ways, New ways. You keep killing me. ©La La Ltd (ASCAP) by Happy Chichester

How Many More Months? How many more months, ’Til she’s a woman? How many more times will she hear, “That girl had it coming?” How many more dreams, Will have to wait? Until the lost boy’s cross she bears, Is her fate? How many more months? And when they judge her they don’t cry, A rain that washes her sins dry. If she tries to tell them, They drown her. How many more rules, Will they make? How many more hypocrite hearts, Will she have to break? How many more months? How many more dreams? ’Til she’s a woman? We put her on the wrong ride, And where she’s going she don’t decide, And what she needs, access denied. That leaves her lying in the lurch, Between and men’s club and a church, Stuck with her baby, She’s crying. How many more months? ©La La Ltd (ASCAP) by Happy Chichester

Shadowland 05:09
Shadowland She’s looking for, Girl she don’t own no more, Can’t afford to lose. In a shadowland, Unoffered and unplanned, What does she do? Could stay her eye, What’s real and what’s a lie, Couldn’t bridge the two. In a shadowland, In the shadow of a man, She didn’t choose. He’s working for, Man that expects support, For his abuse. His baggage weighs, What she carries every day, What does he do? Could stay her eye, What’s real and what’s a lie, She’s human, too. In a shadowland, In the shadow of a man, She didn’t choose. She’s not in right now. Please enjoy the silence. She don’t want to talk about it. Stop voting for, Man that expects support, For his abuse. Keep fighting for, Girl he don’t respect no more, Can’t afford to lose. Could stay her eye, What’s real and what’s a lie, She’s a human too. In a shadowland, In the shadow of a man, She did not choose. She’s in another world right now. She don’t want to talk about it. ©La La Ltd (ASCAP) by Happy Chichester

History 04:23
History Winter coming, Autumn turns into ice. History frozen, Too late to try and change sides. Broke down this morning, Looking for what I can’t find. Nevermind.. Wondering what I would write. History never spares. Doesn’t have time for that. Understands and doesn’t care. Read all of the books you read. Wealthy how the story goes. Conclude the interview. The ending I thought I chose, Already picked out by you. What would you write? What would you write? What would you write? What you did write. What would I write? What I did write. Write, write, write, write, write. ©La La Ltd (ASCAP) by Happy Chichester

Stranger Life A good heart from the south side, yeah yeah, Coming to a desperate patient by air. You might suffer to see your lover there. It can go on in another's resurrection, Love is eternal fire. 'Cause there's a million situations he could choose. The last thing that he's got to give I'm taking now. Some people like to sing of soul, A surgeon brings me to life. Got a beat for people who need some love, Talking 'bout stranger life. Stranger life Stranger life calling Stranger life Stranger life coming I’m gonna miss you. Oh! I’m gonna miss you. Sold us a misguided separation from the start Hope we both get a second wish this time around. Mine is that kindness speaks of wisdom Bathed in a healing light, And the breath that lives and blesses love Bringing us all around. Stranger life Stranger life calling Stranger life Stranger life coming Stranger lifeStranger life coming Stranger life Stranger life calling I’m gonna miss you. Oh, I’m gonna miss you. ©La La Ltd (ASCAP) by Happy Chichester

Knocking At The Door I feel so strange, like a stranger knocking at the door. Politicians' lies, They always try, When they cast their eye, Like dapper John offering apple pie. Them know none of they cause the rot inside, While abetting the nation's ritual heist. It angers me to see, Such fools to fall for such fools as these, Who try to rewrite our history. Now they're pumping their fists in victory, Engineering economic slavery, Betting on greed & Jesus. Heaven help us all. The fix is in, Milk-cow begins to bleed. Lo, as she dies, Reckoning slowly, History of flies, Scene repeats. And it's enough just once, To feel sick inside. Derivative theory, Plain people trapped, By a factory farm’s financial arm, Again and again. Fattened maggots Feeding upon hungry men. x 3 Derivative theory (knocking at the door) Derivative theory, plain people (knocking at the door)..Derivative theory, plain people trapped, (knocking at the door) Slapped masses knocked on their asses, Thrown out of houses, and meantime, Hotshot upper crust doing just fine. Poor people - poor people Poor people - poor people Shut-out people - shut up people Hurting people - hurting people Working people - working people Sold-out soldier - sold-out soldier Good people - good people knocking at the door. Have You Noticed? Have you noticed, There’s a crack in the mirror, The chandelier fell into it, No light? In the fireplace, Drowned amiss, Charcoal remnants of dresses. Water upon what’s been done, In plain sight. Clear, There’s nothing normal here, Nothing normal here. Clear, Don’t be so sincere, The rules of the game have changed. Clear, There’s nothing normal here. Nothing normal here. Have you noticed, Where a hole in the wall lets the government, Electric eye splat the guy? And the radio, In the slave quarters crackles incentive, Bound up in wire, merinthophiles. Have you noticed, That the creep never seems to sleep in the mansion. Log on the fire, War’s still on, Paid in crime? Clear, Have no fear. A drone assassin paid your way. Clear, There’s nothing normal here, The rules of the game have changed. Clear, oh, clear.. Don’t be so sincere, Your betrayal paved the way. And the stars that shine, Down on your world, And the things you don’t notice, This time, your time, They claim. Have you noticed? Clear, There’s nothing normal here, Nothing normal here. Clear, Have no fear, A drone assassin paid your way. Clear, clear.. Nothing normal here, So don’t be so sincere. ©La La Ltd (ASCAP) by Happy Chichester

Pretty Eyes 04:13
Pretty Eyes She greets the stranger and smiles, A hundred miles. A cloud of reservoir tears, Disappears. Pretty, pretty eyes, I know you see me. Pretty, pretty eyes, Look up to the skies. Pretty, pretty eyes, I know you see me. What do you see, Pretty eyes? My heart feels like it just won’t stop. She says I’m somebody else. And though we made each others’ history, She don’t remember who she is to me. Before the waves lap, And take away that, Which can’t be saved of our life, I know it’s alright. It’s all made of love, And love is such fragile stuff. Pretty, pretty eyes, I know you see me. Pretty, pretty eyes, Look up to the skies. Pretty, pretty eyes, I know you see me. What do you see, Pretty eyes? Kick myself after all. Kick myself to the wall. She greets the stranger and smiles, A hundred miles. ©La La Ltd (ASCAP) by Happy Chichester

I'll Get Over You You could strike up the day, Like it's a band, Playing your song, Make it up as you go along. And you could cast over, Night with a seine. You catch the stars, Before the sun is up, And eyes are open. And you waited so long To say "love was my friend." I'll get over you, I'll get over you, If there's anything Anything left of me. I'll get over you, I'll get over you, If there's anything, Anything left. All along you know, Stealing of surprise. Heavy over you, Getting out so clear, Clear, hard. Try again. Buy, sell, Touch, use, Go. I'll get over you, I'll get over you, If there's anything Anything left of me I'll get over you, I'll get over you, If there's anything, Anything left. I'll get over you, I'll get over you, If there's anything Anything left of me I'll get over you, I'll get over you, If there's anything, Anything left. I’ll get over you. ©La La Ltd (ASCAP) by Happy Chichester

about

I want to thank a lot of people, you’re maybe one of them, for helping me finish this album. It would have been finished a whole lot sooner had trouble not busted through our front door without knocking. The pandemic taught me that a compassionless society is a cheap, shabby ghetto, but compassion is the wealth of the world. Congratulations if you're making it through all the societal traumas since then, as well. Mostly, I need to thank Laura, my wife, my life, my love and muse. We were just coming back from social distancing when Laura was diagnosed with cancer. We focused together on healing, dealing with it, and getting through it alive and thriving. While she did the hard work of treatment and managing side effects I provided care. We've come through a lot of stuff. We hope you’re getting through what you’re going through, too. This album has a couple songs I wrote for Laura, and every time we would drive the forty minutes or so to the clinic she would listen to those songs preparing for the difficult chemotherapy and radiation treatments she faced. For example, she would crank up Pocket Messiah to the sky, verse one recounting the day we first met: “oh when you walked into the room..” This album has plenty of other good songs too, but that one is her favorite, with the bass and the big drums. I hope the strength she got from this music extends to you, beloved listener, and to anybody that needs it.
