Carroll speculates that Wilson's one-year deal positions him as a clear bridge quarterback for 2025, while Jameis Winston's two-year contract gives New York another established veteran as starter insurance for 2025 and a player capable of acting as either competition or a backup for Dart down the line. If Wilson is able to capably pilot Daboll's offense and keep New York relatively competitive, at least in line with expectations, he figures to retain a strong grip on the No. 1 gig, but it also wouldn't take more than a handful of early-season duds for pressure to mount.

The Giants and Wilson agreed to a one-year contract Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The Giants have been in search of a new starting quarterback since moving on from Daniel Jones last season, and Wilson seemingly will be the choice for them, at least initially in 2025, even with fellow offseason signing Jameis Winston on the roster and the draft still to come. Wilson will receive $10.5 million guaranteed upon signing with the potential to make $21 million this season. In 11 regular-season appearances (all starts) in his only campaign with the Steelers in 2024, he completed 214 of 336 passes (63.7 percent) for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions, had 43 carries for 155 yards and two more TDs and fumbled five times (four lost).
Wilson is leaving Cleveland without a contract and now is expected to visit the Giants, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. It would seem his third option is to re-sign in Pittsburgh, although both that and the New York situation depend on what Aaron Rodgers decides to do, with reports suggesting both teams prefer Rodgers to Wilson. If Wilson signs with the Browns or Giants it'll come with risk of facing competition from an early draft pick, whereas the Steelers don't pick until No. 21 and already used their second-rounder to acquire WR DK Metcalf.
Wilson is expected to visit the Browns this week, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. The report notes that Wilson is "still in the mix" to re-sign with Pittsburgh, although that likely depends in part on Aaron Rodgers choosing a different team. Justin Fields, meanwhile, is set to sign with the Jets, leaving the Steelers with limited options if things don't work out with Rodgers. As for Wilson, a move to Cleveland would put him in a rough situation in terms of the supporting cast, and there'd also be risk of the team then drafting a rookie quarterback. Deshaun Watson may also be a factor at some point, but he won't be available at the beginning of the season, having undergone surgery in January after rupturing his Achilles tendon for a second time in less than three months.
Steelers owner and president Art Rooney II said Monday that it's "probably unlikely" the team brings back both Wilson and Justin Fields this offseason, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. Pryor reports that Pittsburgh will likely work to bring back one of Wilson or Fields on a one-year contract this offseason, but it sounds like the team isn't considering re-signing both players. The comments made by Rooney II don't necessarily preclude both Wilson and Fields walking as free agents, though Mark Kaboly of 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh reports the team owner said re-signing one of the two signal-callers ""will give us the best opportunity to move forward." As the leader of Pittsburgh's offense, Wilson closed out the season with five consecutive losses, including a wild-card round playoff exit versus Baltimore. The interest he draws as a free agent relative to Fields could ultimately be the deciding factor in dictating which quarterback gets another chance to prove themselves with the Steelers during the 2025 campaign.
Wilson completed 20 of 29 passes for 270 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in Saturday's 28-14 loss to the Ravens. He added three rushes for six yards. Wilson struggled to close the regular season and that carried over into the first half of Saturday's playoff matchup. Things turned around in the second half for him, however, as he aired the ball out with the Steelers down multiple scores and tallied six completions of more than 20 yards. That included a pair of long passing scores that went for 36 and 30 yards to George Pickens and Van Jefferson, respectively. Despite that fairly impressive close to the campaign, Wilson lost five straight games as the leader of the Steelers offense, and he totaled just seven touchdowns while averaging only 6.4 yards per attempt in that span. That sets him up for an intriguing offseason, as he enters free agency clearly on the back end of his career but still capable of orchestrating an effective offense at times.
Wilson completed 17 of 31 passes for 148 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Saturday's 19-17 loss to the Bengals. He added four rushes for 16 yards. Wilson and the Steelers failed to get anything going in the first half, as he completed just four of eight passes for 45 yards. A desperate comeback in the final 10 minutes of game time led to a slightly improved line, highlighted by several long completions to Pat Freiermuth -- including a 19-yard touchdown. While Wilson managed to salvage his stat line to some degree, he's failed to reach 220 passing yards in each of his last five games while throwing for just six total touchdowns in that span. He and the Steelers enter the postseason on a four-game skid and will square off against either the Texans or Ravens.
Wilson completed 23 of 37 passes for 205 yards and an interception in a 29-10 loss to Kansas City on Christmas Day. He added 55 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries. The veteran quarterback's one pick was costly, as it came in the end zone late in the first quarter as the Steelers tried to drive for their first points of the day. Wilson did produce a one-yard TD run in the second quarter, but otherwise the Kansas City pass rush made his life miserable and sacked him five times. Wilson has failed to reach 220 passing yards in four straight games and has committed three turnovers against three TD passes in the last three contests, but even with the Ravens having won Wednesday, the Steelers will still have a chance to claim the AFC North title if they can beat the Bengals, and get some help, in Week 18.
Wilson completed 22 of 33 passes for 217 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 34-17 loss to the Ravens. He added three rushes for 27 yards while also losing a fumble. Wilson's stat line was mediocre, perhaps forgivable considering he remained without George Pickens (hamstring). He was able to get rid of the ball quickly on several occasions, allowing Jaylen Warren and others to pick up yards after the catch while also connecting on deep shots of 44 and 21 yards to Calvin Austin and Van Jefferson, respectively. However, two key mistakes overshadowed the positives, the first of which was when he lost a fumble deep in Baltimore territory after a 19-yard scramble early in the second quarter. Wilson then threw a pick-six early in the final quarter in what turned out to be the decisive sequence of the game. Wilson has now failed to throw for at least 225 yards in his last three matchups -- all of which have come without Pickens.
