Soaring, ethereal and moving, i’m the thorn is a duet of voices and synthesisers evolving in streams of interlocking melodies, underscored by the faint echo of sparse jangly guitars.
Both expansive and minimal in its production, the track revolves around the metaphor “i’m the thorn in your side and you’re in mine” and meditates over the spoils of an unhealthy relationship. It’s about feeling liberated by distancing oneself and still sensing a bond with that person through the mutual wounds inflicted.
It was conflicting to feel comforted by it and the song tries to express the dichotomy of that feeling.
