How To Keep VPN Connection Alive On Android?

Most Android smartphones/tablets come with battery optimisation feature to keep your device last longer on its battery life. Whilst this feature is great, it often kills off apps on your device and when this happens, apps such as ours will disconnect.

In this post, we will guide on how you can disable battery optimisation for hide.me VPN app to keep VPN connection alive.

Note: The instructions below were written based on generic Android settings from its manufacturer and your settings/navigation option may differ.

Samsung device:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > hide.me VPN Battery Optimise battery usage
  • Toggle power saving for hide.me VPN off

Huawei device:

Go to Settings -> Battery -> Close apps after screen lock, > disable the option for hide.me VPN.

Go back to the Settings menu, search for ignore battery optimisation and click on it. Next, tap on the Allowed menu at the top and choose All Apps. Now, tap on hide.me VPN and choose Allow.

Lenovo Device:

Launcher > Settings > Power manager > Background app management > add hide.me VPN to the unrestricted list.

Oppo Device:

Go to Apps drawer > Security center > Privacy permissions > Auto-run management (or Startup manager) > Turn on the switch for hide.me VPN.

Go back to the Settings menu -> Application management > Running tab > tap the Locker icon for hide.me VPN.

Sony Device:

Launcher > Settings > Storage & memory > turn off the Smart cleaner option or continue to tap the three dots at the top right > Advanced > add hide.me VPN to the whitelist.

Vivo Device:

  • Disable power saving for hide.me VPN

Alternatively:

  • Go to Phone Settings > Battery > Battery optimisation
  • Switch to the All apps list. From the dropdown at the top, tap on hide.me VPN  > Don’t optimise

Any other Android device:

  • Go to Settings > App & notifications > Special access Ignore battery optimisation. You can also use your device’s built-in search function to find this menu.
  • Select hide.me VPN. If you don’t see hide.me VPN, make sure you are using the All apps view instead of the Not optimised view.
  • Select Allow (or the option that ensures hide.me VPN is not optimized). hide.me VPN will now be exempt from battery-saving rules on your device.
