Nähwochenende am Chiemsee

Es ist einige Zeit vergangen, seit ich das letzte Mal hier gepostet habe. Die Erkältungswelle hat schließlich auch uns erwischt - obwohl wir bisher so gut durch den Winter gekommen sind... Los ging's mit Husten und dann kam das ganze Programm. Das Schlimmste war aber, dass ich so richtig k.o. war. Am liebsten bin ich nur am Sofa gelegen. An Nähen war gar nicht zu denken. Und das, wo mein Nähwochenende am Chiemsee bevorstand... Bis zuletzt wusste ich nicht, ob ich wirklich fahren kann. Ich wollte ja auch nicht unbedingt die anderen anstecken. Letztlich habe ich mich auf den Weg gemacht und wir waren eh ein halbes Lazarett. Durchgehalten habe ich allerdings nur mit Boxa Grippal und die sonst üblichen Late Night oder Early Morning Nähsessions gab es diesmal nicht - zumindest nicht für mich. Ich hatte auch kein Projekt, dass ich explizit für dieses Wochenende mitgenommen habe. Aber zum Nähen findet sich ja trotzdem genug. Und die Umgebung dort ist wie Balsam für die Seele...

It's been a while since I wrote here... But the flu finally caught us too. I felt really sick and just wanted to lie on the couch. The worst thing about all this was, that there was a sewing retreat with my patchwork group ahead and I really didn't think going there was a good idea. I didn't want to infect the others. But since I felt a bit better I went - together with a lot of medications. And I wasn't the only person with a cold! Fortunately :-) This time I didn't do the usual late night or early morning sewing sessions. Instead I went to bed early and slept in in the morning... And felt better and better :-) The good thing about such a weekend is, that you don't have to prepare lunch or dinner for the family. You can just sit down at the table and get healthy food. That's what a mum should do, when she is half-ill - go to a sewing weekend and relax :-)))) Not difficult in such a beautiful landscape...

Nicht viel denken muss ich mittlerweile bei meinen Pineapple Blöcken, die meine Bee-Mädels von der To be a bee-Gruppe auch für mich nähen. Da ich insgesamt 35 von diesen Blöcken brauche, muss ich selbst noch ein bisschen daran sitzen. Acht Vorlagen habe ich mir mitgenommen und die habe ich im Laufe des Wochenendes auch alle fertig genäht:

I don't have to think a lot when sewing my pineapple blocks and thus this was the perfect project for the weekend. I took eight patterns with me and finished all eight blocks. For a whole quilt I need 35 - my bee mates from the German speaking bee "To be a bee" are sewing some blocks for me but there are still a couple of them left for myself. 

Da hätte ich glatt noch mehr mitnehmen können...
Hier daheim trudeln auch immer mehr Bee-Blöcke ein, die letzten werde ich dann bei unserem jährlichen Bee Treffen in Randersacker bekommen. Und dann kann ich anfangen und das Top zusammennähen :-)

I could have finished more but ran out of patterns... Well, no problem, I still have some time left to finish this quilt. And my bee mates will give me the last missing blocks when we meet for our annual retreat in April. Then I'll be able to join the top.

Außerdem haben wir am Chiemsee unsere Blöcke für den Verlosungsquilt für die Quiltausstellung in Unterhaching - die in diesem Jahr übrigens etwas früher, nämlich am Wochenende 19. - 21.10., stattfinden wird - genäht. Einen kleinen Teaser gefällig? Unsere Blöcke sind inspiriert vom "Birch Tree" Quilt von Amanda Jean.

We also started with the blocks for our charity quilt for the exhibition of our group in Unterhaching - which will take place in October this year! Two weeks earlier than usually! Want to see a little teaser? Yes, it is inspired by the "Birch Tree" quilt by Amanda Jean. 

Mittlerweile ist das ganze Top fertig und ich muss sagen, das wird ein richtig schöner Quilt! Vielleicht muss ich mir auch einmal so einen nähen...

Meanwhile the top is finished and I have to admit I love it! I should make one for myself...

Trotz verkürzter Nähzeit und Mittagsschläfchen habe ich aber noch mehr geschafft an diesem Nähwochenende. Ich habe ein neues Projekt angefangen. Den "Delightful Desert" Quilt von Elizabeth Hartman. In den habe ich mich bei der Quiltmesse in Houston verliebt und die passenden Stoffe auch gleich dort erstanden. Den tollen Essex Linen Hintergrundstoff hat unsere Chefin auch für den Laden bestellt und somit konnte ich jetzt anfangen. Die Tiere sind nicht auf Papier genäht sondern mit sogenannten "Connector-Ecken". Viel Verschnitt, aber nicht schwer zu machen. Nur die Vorbereitung dauert, weil man unheimlich viele verschiedene Quadrate und Rechtecke zuschneiden muss und da auch schön sortieren und kennzeichnen muss - sonst verliert man total den Überblick...
Aber wenn man das mal hat, dann geht es eigentlich ganz flott :-)

Even if I wasn't as productive as usually on such a sewing retreat weekend, I not only finished my pineapple blocks but also started a new project: The "Delightful Desert" quilt by Elizabeth Hartman. I fell in love with it when I saw it at the Quiltmarket in Houston and immediately took the gorgeous fabrics with me. The wonderful background fabric is available at my LQS and so I could start with the first block. It's not difficult to sew but a lot of cutting. And you have to sign all the different pieces because otherwise you will get lost. But it is not difficult to sew!

Das war es dann aber. Am Sonntag bin ich relativ früh wieder heimgefahren und habe dann die letzte Woche genutzt, um wieder richtig auf die Füsse zu kommen. Von jetzt an gibt es also hoffentlich wieder mehr zu sehen :-)

On Sunday I left early and it took me the last week to get fit again. But now I hope I'm able to sew and show more again!

Patchwork Retreat in Randersacker

Letztes Wochenende war es wieder soweit - die Mitglieder unserer "To be a bee" Gruppe haben sich zu einem gemeinsamen Nähwochenende getroffen. Im letzten Jahr haben wir das zum ersten Mal gemacht und das hat so viel Spaß gemacht, dass wir gleich für dieses Jahr reserviert haben. In den letzten Wochen wurde schon viel geplant und unsere What'sApp-Gruppe quoll jeden Tag über mit Fragen, Mitteilungen und dem Schmieden von Plänen.

I spent a gorgeous weekend together with my bee mates from the "To be a bee" group at our patchwork retreat in Randersacker. We met there the year before and had so much fun that we decided to do it again - and everybody was excited. Every morning when I woke up I found a lot of messages, questions and plans in our What'sApp group :-)

Lustig war, dass sich alle wieder wie im letzten Jahr in unserem Nähraum ihr Plätzchen gesucht haben - und entgegen anders lautender Aussagen war das keine Anweisung :-) Aber man hat schon gemerkt, dass wir das schon mal zusammen gemacht haben - umgehend wurden die Tische im Raum zurecht geschoben, die Süßigkeiten und Knabbereien auf den Fensterbrettern platziert und die Maschinen und Bügelbretter aufgestellt. Und von da an wurde fleißig gearbeitet:

It was funny how everybody chose the same seat as last year - and there wasn't an instruction to do so (even if some of us say so... :-)) ). We immediately arranged the tables the way we did last year and placed the sweets and salty snacks on the window boards, set up the sewing machines and the ironing boards and started our busy sewing:

In unserem Hotel wurden wir erstklassig versorgt und teilweise hat das Wetter ja auch mitgespielt und man konnte draußen im Innenhof sitzen.

The food in our hotel was excellent and the weather good enough that we could sit outside for lunch:

Durch die geöffnete Tür zu unserem "Nähzimmer" hat auch der eine oder andere Restaurantgast mal hereingeschaut, was wir da so machen. Und Besuch von zwei mehr oder weniger ortsansässigen Instagram-Bekanntschaften haben wir auch bekommen. Das war richtig lustig! Ich habe leider keine Fotos davon, aber schaut doch mal bei Iva und auf dem Blog der Modern Cologne Quilters vorbei - die haben auch tolle Berichte über unser Wochenende mit zahlreichen Fotos!

Some curious visitors of the restaurant came to the opened patio door of our sewing room and had a look at those strange women who sat there and only thought about sewing :-) It was wonderful that two Instagram friends whom we haven't met before came around to see us. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures but if you have a look at the blogs of Iva and the Modern Cologne Quilters, you'll find a lot of wonderful pictures :-)

Am Freitag nach dem Abendessen hat Ulrike wieder ein kleines "Einstiegsprojekt" mit uns allen gemacht - ein kleines Nadelbett, um all die Nähmaschinennadeln ordentlich aufbewahren und zuordnen zu können, wenn man sie wechselt und doch noch weiter benutzen kann. Dann sieht man ja oft nicht mehr, was das für eine Nadel ist. Aber das Nadelbett hilft :-)
Besonders genial ist der aufbügelbare "To be a bee" Schriftzug, den uns Verena mitgebracht hat. Eine richtig tolle Sache!

After dinner on Friday Ulrike instructed us on doing a little project together - a "needle bed" for used sewing machine needles. Verena brought the wonderful "to be a bee" lettering which was ironed on every needle bed - a wonderful memory, isn't it?

Anschließend hat dann jede genäht, wozu sie Lust hatte. Allerdings haben ein paar der Mädels schon im Vorfeld beschlossen, eine Market Bag zu nähen. Demzufolge sind da sehr viele und ausgesprochen schöne Taschen entstanden:

After that everyone sewed her own project - nevertheless some of us had decided to sew a Market Bag at our retreat and in the end we had a wonderful parade. Such beautiful bags - aren't they?

Ich hatte mir fest vorgenommen, eine Maker's Tote nach dem Schnitt von Anna Graham zu nähen. Die Stoffe dafür habe ich mir bereits im März ausgesucht - aus der Serie "Ninja Cookies" von Jenn Ski, kombiniert mit Grunge und Quilter's Linen. Die Außenseite war eigentlich ganz flott genäht - nachdem ich erst einmal ewig gebraucht habe, um alle Teile zuzuschneiden...

I wanted to make a Maker's Tote using the pattern of Anna Graham aka noodlehead. I bought the fabrics for this project in March. It took me ages to cut all the pieces but when I finally started sewing it went quite smooth. The outside was finished pretty fast:

Auch der Innenteil war eigentlich nicht kompliziert. Ein bisschen geflucht habe ich beim Einnähen des großen Reißverschlusses. Nachdem ich zweimal trennen musste und mich geärgert habe, herrschte rücksichtsvolle Stille - bis Heidi sich hinter mich gestellt hat und lapidar sagte "Warum nähst Du denn auch so schief?" - da gab es kein Halten mehr und alles hat lauthals losgelacht. Tja, wer den Schaden hat... Mir standen vor Lachen die Tränen in den Augen und der Frust war dahin :-) Geholfen hat aber sicherlich auch das Gläschen Wein...

And the inner part with the pockets was good to sew too. But when I worked on the big zipper I had to take out my seam ripper twice. I scolded and grumbled and nobody dared to say a word - except Heidi who came up behind me and just said "Well, why do you make such crooked seams?" We all laughed so hard - I had tears in my eyes :-) The frustration was gone, but I have to admit, that the glass of wine helped a bit too...

Fertig genäht habe ich die Tasche dann am Sonntag - also fast fertig... Denn ich war dann mit den für mich doch eher ungewöhnlichen Stoffen doch nicht mehr ganz so glücklich - irgendwie war es mir zu viel Gelb. Und keiner der Stoffe hat mir so richtig für die Henkel gefallen. Also habe ich beschlossen, das erst mal zu lassen und mir Ledergriffe zu kaufen. Also - jetzt erst mal Tasche ohne Henkel:

I finished my tote on Sunday. Well, almost... At the moment it is a tote without handles. I decided against fabric handles and have to buy some leather ones now in order to finish it. But I am sure, that leather will look better...

Ich konnte das ja gar nicht am Samstag fertig nähen - da gab es ja noch die Samstagabend-Einlage: Wichteln! Schon im Vorfeld hatten wir besprochen, dass jede ein Körbchen näht und dieses auch mit einer Kleinigkeit befüllen darf. Neutral in Zeitungspapier verpackt gab es keine Hinweise darauf, wer was genäht hatte.

On Saturday evening we played "Secret Bee" - everyone of us has made a little fabric basket and wrapped it into newspaper so that no one could guess which package was from whom. Through the roll of a pair of dice we all were allowed to secretly pick one of the sewn baskets. It was gorgeous!

Und dann wurde reihum gewürfelt - wer eine 6 hatte, durfte sich ein Päckchen aussuchen. Sehr schöne Sachen gab es da und ich glaube, dass jede von uns glücklich war:

Ich war natürlich besonders glücklich, weil ich das schöne Körbchen von Karen "gezogen" habe:

I was lucky enough to pick Karen's basket and I really love it - especially the selfthreading needles she put in :-)

Einfach genial - vor allem die Selfthreading Needles, die sie hineingepackt hat. Die kann ich so gut brauchen, weil ich gerade ganz viele Fäden vernähen muss. Die Handcreme und den Stoff habe ich noch von Sabine bekommen, weil ich sie im Auto mitgenommen habe. Immer wieder gerne :-)

Handlotion and fabric were a little gift from Sabine whom I offered a ride in my car to Randersacker. Thanks so much - I'll be glad to take you with me again next year :-)

Tja, und was war sonst noch so los bei uns? Es gab ein Show and Tell - von dem ich leider gar keine Fotos gemacht habe. Aber da könnte Ihr bei Iva und den Modern Cologne Quilters zum Glück viel bewundern.
Karen hat ihren tollen Long Island New York Beauty Quilt in einer anderen Stoffkombi gezeigt und einige von uns haben angefangen, dieses Pattern nachzunähen. Ich bin sehr gespannt auf die Ergebnisse!

We also had an awesome show and tell - but unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of it. I was so impressed by the beauty of the shown quilts... Luckily Iva and the Modern Cologne Quilters are showing lots of pictures in their report :-) 
Karen showed a beautiful version of her Long Island New York Beauty Quilt and some of us began to sew it. I'm curious to see the finished results!

Ich habe dann noch etwas Neues angefangen - ein paar Drunkard's Path Blöcke, aus denen ich einen kleinen Wandbehang nähen möchte. Das war nach der Taschennäherei eine willkommene Abwechslung:

I eventually started a new project - some Drunkard's Path blocks which I want to join to a little wall hanging. That was a welcome distraction from my tote sewing :-)

Wie schön es wirklich war, kann man eigentlich gar nicht beschreiben oder zeigen. Es wurde viel geratscht und gelacht,

We had such a wonderful time together, I think it's not possible to describe it in words or pictures... We chatted and laughed a lot,

man konnte sich Tipps und Anregungen holen, vom Alltag entspannen und sich einfach mal verwöhnen lassen. Es ist schon schön, wenn man nur auswählen muss, welches Gericht man gerne hätte und nicht selber kochen muss!

helped each other and got a lot of ideas and suggestions for further projects and - very important too - we could relax from everyday life. It is so wonderful, when you just have to choose your meal and don't have to prepare it...!

Es ist eine tolle Truppe und ich freue mich, dass es wieder so gut geklappt hat. Noch mehr freue ich mich, dass wir uns im nächsten Jahr wieder dort treffen werden. Ich kann es kaum erwarten :-)

It's a wonderful group and I am so happy, that everything went well. No arguments, no discord, just happiness and friendship and a lot of laughing. I can't wait to meet the ladies again next year!

Patch, the Pussycat

"Patch, the Pussycat" - so heißt das Katzenpattern der Funky Friends Factory. Da gibt es total süße Anleitungen für alle möglichen Tiere - mich aber hat die Katze fasziniert. Aus zwei Gründen: Erstens haben wir selbst eine Katze und zweitens hat Pauline von der Funky Friends Factory diese Katze mit den tollen neuen Stoffen von Tula Pink genäht. Süß :-) Meine Chefin bei Quilt & Textilkunst hat mir das Pattern von der Messe in Houston mitgebracht und geschenkt. Das heißt, es lag schon ziemlich lange bei mir herum, bis ich mich beim Nähwochenende mit meiner Patchworkgruppe Anfang des Monats endlich aufraffen konnte, zu nähen. Das Problem ist nämlich, dass ich so "gegenständliche" Sachen nicht gut nähen kann. Das ist so ein bisschen wie Klamottennähen und das kann ich nicht... Aber in meiner Patchworkgruppe sind viele Mädels, die mir da helfen können und somit war das der perfekte Zeitpunkt. Ich bin froh, dass sie jetzt fertig ist:

"Patch the Pussycat" is a pattern by the Funky Friends Factory. There are other wonderful animal patterns available - but my favorite is the cat. For two reasons: We have a cat and are definitely used to these animals. The second reason is, that Pauline from the Funky Friends Factory sewed this cat using the awesome new fabric line "Tabby Road" by Tula Pink. Perfect for a little cat soft toy! My boss brought this pattern home from the Quilt Festival in Houston and gave it to me. So I had it for quite a while and it took me some time to start. The problem was, that I was afraid of sewing something 3-dimensional. It's a little bit like sewing clothes - which I never do because I don't like it. But I thought I might give it a try during our patchwork retreat - there were so many experienced sewers around me whom I could ask, so it was the perfect opportunity. And now I'm finished:

Doch der Weg dorthin war schon ein bisschen steinig :-) Los ging's mit dem Zuschneiden und dann mit dem Nähen des Kopfes. Klar, das Schlimmste gleich am Anfang... Und die erste Naht hat gleich mal nicht gepasst. Ich weiß bis heute nicht, warum. Aber mit dem Kopf habe ich echt gekämpft. Er ist nicht perfekt geworden, aber ich bin zufrieden:

Well, it wasn't easy for me :-) I started with the tiny and curved pieces of the head. The worst at the beginning... And the first seam didn't fit. I really struggled with it and the head of my cat isn't perfect but nevertheless I'm satisfied that I managed it:

Der Rest ging dann eigentlich ganz gut. Auf der Seite der Funky Friends Factory gibt es auch viele Tutorials, die wirklich hilfreich sind. Blöd war nur, dass ich das nur auf dem Handy anschauen konnte und das war ein bisschen mühsam. Also habe ich es meist gelassen und stattdessen mein Gegenüber genervt mit Fragen :-) Vielen Dank, Kristin, für Deine Geduld! Beim Einnähen der Pfoten habe ich allerdings doch erst einmal in Ruhe das Tutorial geguckt und damit hat das Einsetzen der Pfoten super funktioniert:

The rest went quite smooth. There are many tutorials on the site of the Funky Friends Factory which are very helpful. It was a bit difficult for me to watch them on the smartphone and I didn't bring my laptop with me. So I bothered my colleague sitting next to me with my questions - thanks for being so patient, Kristin! :-) When sewing the paws I watched the tutorial and I must say it was perfect! I was afraid of sewing wrinkles into it but no - I'm proud of how wonderful the paws turned out!!!

Am Nähwochenende habe ich die Katze fertig genäht, aber ich hatte kein Füllmaterial dabei.

I finished the cat's body but didn't bring anything to fill it with me.

Das konnte ich dann also erst daheim machen. Seitdem stand die Katze gefüllt über meinem Schneidetisch und hat auf mich heruntergeschaut (okay, ich glaube, sie schaut eher geradeaus und von daher über mich hinweg...). Gefehlt zum perfekten Aussehen hat ihr nur doch die Nase. Und die hat sie gestern endlich bekommen. Ich habe im Keller in meiner Bastelkiste nach Filz gesucht und bin tatsächlich fündig geworden. Unsere echte Katze hat mir und ihrer neuen Freundin ein bisschen Gesellschaft geleistet bei der kleinen Nasen-OP:

So I had to do this at home. Since then the cat was standing on my shelf and looking at me while I was cutting fabrics and sewing. But one tiny piece was still missing - the nose. Yesterday I finally managed to attach a piece of pink felt. Our "real" cat was sitting next to us during the nose-surgery and they were distracted by some birds outside. 

Ob die jetzt Best Friends werden?

They seem to be best friends already, don't you think so?

Ich mag meine neue Katze - bin mir aber ziemlich sicher, dass sie ein Einzelstück bleiben wird :-)

I love my new cat - but I'm quite sure this will be the only one... I'm not planning a mass production :-)

Badetasche

Das erste Aprilwochenende habe ich mit den Mädels meiner Neubiberger Patchworkgruppe am Chiemsee verbracht. Einmal im Jahr fahren wir in ein wunderschönes Hotel direkt am See und nähen, nähen, nähen (und esse, essen, essen...) . Davon habe ich noch gar nichts gezeigt hier :-) Ich fange mal mit meiner neuen Badetasche an - denn das ist das einzige Teil, das ich richtig fertig bekommen habe:

I spent the first weekend of April at the wonderful Chiemsee together with the ladies of my local patchwork group. Once a year we go there and sew, sew, sew. Well - and eat, eat, eat... :-) I haven't showed any pictures of this yet and I'll start with a little post about my new tote - which is the only project I really finished completely:

Ist die nicht schön? Der Schnitt ist "Poolside Tote" von Noodlehead. Seit mindestens einem Jahr möchte ich diese Tasche gerne nähen und dieses Nähwochenende kam mir gerade gelegen dafür. Da hat man Zeit, muss nicht ständig aufhüpfen und sich um die Wäsche oder das Mittagessen kümmern und kann gedanklich bei der Sache bleiben. Denn so eine Tasche braucht schon ein bisschen, bis sie fertig ist. Alleine das Zuschneiden...!

Isn't it lovely? The pattern is "Poolside Tote" by Noodlehead. I had it on my To-Sew-List for more than a year now and this weekend was perfect to finally sew it. No interruptions, no need to prepare lunch or look after the laundy - you can fully concentrate on sewing. That's good because making such a tote takes some time. Only think about the cutting of all those pieces...!

Zwischendurch habe ich anscheinend mal ein bisschen gemeckert (das haben mir zumindest die Umsitzenden so bestätigt :-) ) - das lag aber nicht daran, dass irgendetwas nicht gepasst hätte. Nein, die Schnitte sind wirklich super und am Ende sieht alles so aus, wie auf dem Schnittfoto. Aber es waren halt ein paar für mich ungewohnte Schritte, die eher aus der Bekleidungsnäherei kommen - und das ist ja gar nicht meines... Aber irgendwann nach dem Mittagessen war ich fertig. Und jetzt warte ich nur noch darauf, dass das Wetter richtig schön und beständig wärmer wird und mein Lieblingssee wieder zum Baden einlädt :-)

My friends told me that I've been a bit grumpy along the way - which definitely wasn't because of the pattern! I love the Noodlehead pattern! But there were some steps which reminded me of the careful sewing and pressing which is necessary when sewing clothes. And I hate sewing clothes... But - grumpy or not - I was finally finished and am more than happy with this tote! Now I only have to wait for constant warm temperatures and then I'll take it to the lake :-)

Die Stoffe für diese Tasche sind aus der Serie "Grand Canal" von Kate Spain, als Innenfutter habe ich Thermolam verwendet. Meine Jüngste bezweifelt, dass da mein Quilt reinpasst, den ich immer mit an den See nehme. Ich bin mir sicher, er passt mit meinem Handtuch, einem Buch, Sonnencreme und etwas zum Trinken rein - nur die Kinder müssen ihre Sachen dann in eine eigene Tasche packen :-)

The fabrics are "Grand Canal" from Kate Spain and I used some isolating batting which is not too heavy but makes it stand. My youngest daughter doesn't believe that the quilt I'm taking with me to the lake will fit in. Well, I'm sure it'll do - together with a towel, a book, suncream and something to drink. But the kids will have to take their own tote :-)

Bee Wochenende

Als Heidi und ich zu Beginn des letzten Jahres die Online Bee-Gruppe "To be a bee" ins Leben gerufen haben, wussten wir noch nicht so recht, wie sich das entwickeln würde. Doch es war von Anfang an richtig schön - wir passen alle gut zusammen, das gemeinsame Nähen im Netz macht richtig viel Spaß und so wurde irgendwann die Idee geboren, sich auch mal im echten Leben zu treffen und zusammen zu nähen. Ein Termin wurde festgelegt, eine Unterkunft gesucht und am vergangenen Wochenende war es endlich soweit! Und so viel kann ich schon einmal vorweg nehmen: Es war ein voller Erfolg!!!

When Heidi and I started the "To be a bee" bee-group more than a year ago, we didn't know what to expect and how this will turn out. But we needn't worry about it - the group is gorgeous! And that's why we decided to meet in real life as well. We found a date and a nice hotel and became more excited the closer the date came. The last weekend we all met and spent a fantastic time together! 

Wir haben uns aus logistischen Gründen in Randersacker eingemietet - da hatten wir alle ungefähr gleich weit zu fahren - mit Ausnahme von Iva, die sich ja aus der Schweiz auf den Weg zu uns gemacht hat. Im Laufe des Nachmittags sind alle so langsam eingetrudelt, wir haben unseren Tagungsraum bezogen und kistenweise Sachen angeschleppt - sowas gab es dort wohl noch nie :-) Das Hotel war wirklich ein Glücksgriff - alle total nett, wir wurden vom Feinsten verpflegt - und das auch noch reichlich! Morgens ein schönes Frühstücksbuffet, am Vormittag Kaffee, Tee und Obst, dann wieder Mittagessen mit verschiedenen Auswahlmöglichkeiten, nachmittags Kaffee, Tee und Kuchen und dann ein wundervolles Abendessen... Die Gegend war auch wunderschön - nur leider haben wir davon ja nicht so viel gesehen, weil wir fast die ganze Zeit - wenn wir nicht gerade beim Essen waren :-) - an den Nähmaschinen saßen :-))) Ein kleiner Spaziergang war aber drin:

Regarding that we all live in different parts of Germany (and Switzerland) we tried to find a place somewhere in the middle and decided on Randersacker close to Würzburg. Friday in the afternoon one after the other arrived and we moved into our "sewing room" and carried lots of stuff in there - I think, the people of the hotel have never had a group like ours before :-) We really hit the bull's-eye with the hotel. Wonderful and helpful staff, gorgeous food - and we had lots of it -, a lovely garden and surrounding... Although we haven't seen that much of it because we spent most of the time in front of the sewing machines :-) But a little walk after lunch showed the beauty of the area:

In unserem Nähzimmer wurde erst mal eine weitere Verpflegungsstation errichtet :-)

In our sewing room we had a catering station with sweets and treats :-)

Und dann ging's los. Mit einem kleinen, gemeinsamen Nähprojekt zum "Warmnähen" :-) Ulrike hatte uns gebeten, fünf Stoffkreise in CD-Größe vorzubereiten - aus denen sind dann in Null Komma Nix diese witzigen Glasuntersetzer geworden:

And then we started with a little project. Ulrike asked us to bring five fabric circles in the size of a CD - within less than five minutes we made these lovely coasters out of them:

Ansonsten hatte ich mir für dieses Wochenende nur zwei Projekte fix vorgenommen: Ich wollte mein Landmädel-Top endlich fertig machen und eine Market Bag aus dem tollen Buch "Handmade Style" von Anna Graham nähen. Doch angefangen habe ich dann mit einer Fünffach-Tasche von Farbenmix. Diese Anleitung gab es letzten Winter als Adventskalender-Nähprojekt, doch da hatte ich reisebedingt ja keine Zeit zum Nähen. Am Donnerstag jedoch habe ich mich - ebenfalls zum "Warmnähen" vor dem großen Bee-Wochenende - noch mit ein paar Freundinnen bei Ulrike getroffen und wir wollten diese Tasche nähen. Ich bin fast fertig geworden, musste dann aber heim zu den Kindern. Eigentlich wollte ich die Tasche dann am Abend noch fertig machen, habe aber leider das Teil für die zweite Außentasche bei Ulrike liegen gelassen :-) Schussel... Also wurde das zu meinem Freitagabend Projekt :-)

I wanted to finish two projects during this weekend: My Farmer's Wife Quilttop and the Market Bag from Anna Graham (pattern in her book "Handmade Style"). But due to my sloppiness I also had to finish another bag... one with five pockets from Farbenmix. It was a free pattern last winter but I couldn't sew it at that time because I was travelling down under with my husband :-) But on Thursday I met some friends at Ulrike's house and we started to sew such a bag. I was almost finished when I had to go back home to my kids. It would have been easy to finish it in the evening - if only I hadn't forgotten one of the outer parts at Ulrike's place... Fortunately she brought it with her to our weekend and so I finished it after our wonderful dinner :-)

Am Samstag habe ich zunächst meine Teile vom Landmädel-Quilt hervorgeholt. Diesen Quilt habe ich vor ewigen Zeiten beim Landmädel QAL auf flickr begonnen und eigentlich wollte ich ihn vor eineinhalb Jahren im Pfingsturlaub fertig nähen. Aber irgendwie hat das nicht geklappt. Und seitdem fristete das halbfertige Stück ein trauriges Dasein in einem Wäschekorb in meinem Schrank. Verdeckt von einem anderen Langzeitprojekt... Es wurde Zeit, es wieder ans Licht zu holen :-)
Zunächst musste ich mich erst wieder hineindenken, dann habe ich geschnitten und genäht und am Ende hatte ich das Top (fast) fertig - nur die Dreiecke an den Ecken fehlen noch. Aber ich bin schon superhappy, dass das jetzt geschafft ist und ich räume das Top gar nicht erst wieder weg, sondern mache gleich weiter :-) Wollt Ihr mal sehen?

Saturday morning I started to work on my Farmer's Wife Quilt Top. I participated in the German QAL more than two years ago and wanted to finish it during our holidays in June 2014... Well, I didn't and since then it was an UFO hidden in my wardrobe. What a pity! It was definitely time to finish this beauty. It took me some time to remember what to do but when I figured it out I cut, sewed and worked quietly until I was finished - well, almost finished since the corner triangles are still missing. But I won't put it aside again until it is a real finish :-) 

Als das geschafft war, scharrte Ulrike schon ungeduldig mit den Hufen :-) Denn gemeinsam wollten wir die Market Bag nähen. Seit ich die tolle Version von Saija gesehen habe, wollte ich auch so eine Tasche nähen und jetzt legten wir los. Eine super Anleitung - wie immer bei Noddlehead - aber auch viel Arbeit. Vor allem wegen des engen Quiltings... Da saß ich eine ganze Weile dran!

Ulrike was impatiently waiting for me to finish my Farmer's Wife project because we planned to start another project together - the Market Bag. The moment I saw the awesome bag Saija made, I knew I had to sew one like that as well. The moment was here :-) The pattern and instructions are gorgeous - as always when it comes to Noodlehead patterns. But also a lot of work... Especially because of the narrow quilting. That took me more than an hour!

Am Abend habe ich dann zu allem Übel auch noch die dünne Bügeleinlage verkehrt auf's Bügelbrett gelegt und nicht auf meinen Futterstoff, sondern zielsicher auf das Bügelbrett gebügelt. Zeit für eine Pause...? Definitiv! Also ab zum Abendessen und danach gab es erst einmal eine kleine Verlosung von genähten Kleinigkeiten, die jede von uns mitgebracht hatte:

In the evening I made a stupid mistake and pressed the fusible woven interfacing on my ironing board instead of the lining fabric... Time for a break? Yes, definitely! So we went to dinner and afterwards had a lottery with handmade items we prepared at home:

Anschließend ein wirklich lustiges Show and Tell und dann wurde bis spät in die Nacht weitergenäht. Und geratscht :-) Auf alle Fälle habe ich die Tasche an dem Abend nicht mehr fertig bekommen und musste am nächsten Morgen weitermachen. Aber genau rechtzeitig vorm Mittagessen habe ich die letzte Naht gesetzt und bin jetzt stolze Besitzerin dieser Market Bag:

We also had a fantastic Show and Tell, drank some wine, chatted a lot and sewed until midnight :-) I didn't finish my bag and had to go on the next morning. I was completely finished just in time before we went to lunch and now I am the proud owner of this Market Bag:

Danach war erst mal ein bisschen die Luft raus... Dafür habe ich mir endlich mal Zeit genommen und ein bisschen in all den mitgebrachten Patchwork-Büchern gestöbert :-)
Gemeinsam mit Heidi habe ich dann noch an meinem Reisebee-Top gearbeitet. Das musste noch zusammengesetzt bzw. ein bisschen umgeordnet werden. Wir haben überlegt, getrennt, umgeordnet, überlegt, wieder getrennt, neu angeordnet und jetzt ist ein ganz guter Plan entstanden:

I was a bit tired after all that concentrated sewing and couldn't really decide on another sewing project. But I took the time to have a look at the wonderful and interesting patchwork books everybody brought with her and which we collected on a small table in our room :-)
Together with Heidi I finally worked a little bit on my Round Robin Travelling Bee Top. As it was not a finished top when I got it back I decided to rearrange the blocks a little bit. So we thought about a layout, ripped some seams, arranged the blocks, ripped and rearranged again and came up with a good plan:

Ich freue mich richtig darauf, wieder daran zu nähen!
Leider näherte sich unser Treffen damit aber auch schon dem Ende... So langsam wurde hier und da mit dem Einpacken begonnen und ein bisschen wehmütige Stimmung kam auf. Klar, dass wir für's nächste Jahr gleich wieder ein Wochenende geblockt und gebucht haben :-)

Unfortunately the end of our retreat was coming closer... One after the other packed up all her belongings and there was a bit of melancholy in the air. But of course we already blocked and booked a weekend in 2017 and are looking forward to meeting again!
