My first encounter with 7D was at a show last October at Seafoam in Pittsburgh. Their set was so striking - one person filling the space with otherworldly sounds coming out of a single guitar amp running vocals, keyboard, electronics, violin, and more - so when they said they didn't have any recordings, I had to offer to release something. Months later I was surprised and delighted to receive "the belonging alongside", an equally striking but expanded multi-instrumental full-length rendering of their vision, the dark fruits of patient, hermetic creativity captured with the clarity of a borrowed Tascam digital 8-track. This 'hello' album offers a bewildering yet cohesive survey of sounds and modes - ranging from bowed modern classical compositions to FM synth new age to hypnagogic waltzes, various experimental miniatures featuring music boxes, dragged styluses, autoharp, tape manipulation, a dumpstered keyboard plus at least one unexpected and excellent percussion workout - there's even a sort of ... bucolic power electronics track? Evident throughout the album is a strong intuitive grasp of musicality and a creative skewing of it. A future underground classic. Hello!

7D also performs and records as part of The Ill-Fitting Party and Overflowing Inside Folders. This is their debut solo release.

Included is a companion zine by 7D. In keeping a ritualistic journal of practices, recording sessions, and dreams throughout the entire process of making 'the belonging alongside', they accumulated a wealth of text and drawings which were then sorted to create the cut-up poetry and collage seen in the zine, which the artist considers inseparable from the tape itself.
