sane_kyle Absolute banger from start to finish. Howling Giant continues to shake the earth and, at the same time, soar through the atmosphere with the sheer massiveness of their sound. Some of the very best sludge metal out there, masterfully balancing the untamed energy of punk, the crushing heaviness of doom, and epic fucking melody. Definitely a high point in the band's discography and one of the best records of 2025. Favorite track: Beholder I: Downfall.

Sam Howling Giant are really good at navigating this sweet spot between heavy psych rock and prog metal and this album is their best yet! I can't recommend this band enough! Go see them live if you can! Favorite track: Beholder II: Labyrinth.

Canyons 06:41
Collide and climb Crumple and fold Water carving stone Crimson striped canyons Run to the core The hand of god wreathed in gold Growth and collapse Falling apart at the seams Carving our message in canyons Speaking our will into form Changing the land with our steel Raising our hands to the sun Fading might Struggle to maintain The power left behind Entombed in stone Collide and climb Crumple and fold The hand of god Wreathed in gold Growth and collapse Falling apart at the seams Carving our message in canyons Speaking our will into form Changing the land with our steel Raising our hands to the sun Land of god Decays Deformed Growth and collapse Too far gone The closing hand Wreathed in gold Growth and collapse Carving our message in canyons Speaking our will into form Changing the land with our steel Raising our hands to the sun

Close your eyes All the wolves are in hiding Open wide Teeth flashing with lightning White branches And golden fields Overrun by the careless With blasphemous steel Pray, praying for rain I’m falling in love With the thought of dying I’m here, here in your arms Oh goddess of hunters Waiting for blood Red branches And sallow fields Stripped away by the endless echoes Of claws on shield Pray, praying for rain I’m falling in love With the thought of dying I’m here, here in your arms Oh goddess of hunters Waiting for blood

Archon 06:02
Under a borealis sky Lie the bones of 700 beasts I told each one they’d never die That they’d never know defeat That they’d never know defeat Crystallizing into matter Shaping essence into form Mining broken constellations In an asteroid fire storm Another fragile world of creatures My conjuration, another lesson learned They’ll never know who came before them How many times this wheel has turned Another lesson learned Another lesson learned And the wheel has turned Crystallizing into matter Shaping essence into form Mining broken constellations In an asteroid fire storm

Older than time Each step that it takes splits the earth And shakes the sky Rending the fabric Tearing the ties Shattering minds Eons in darkness Out of the void Projecting its filth on paradise Hunger A force without a name Our downfall There’s no one left to blame Eons in darkness Out of the void Projecting its filth on paradise
6.
Archivist 06:47
How curious to witness the worlds of man Observing them from far away Their history recorded by tranquil hands With halls as silent as the grave Archives of the many That have come before Countless shelves undiscovered On countless floors A scrying eye their fate unsealed The understood becoming real The archivist of all the scribe of what has been With every opened scroll another planet lives Archives of the many And all that lies within Countless shelves undiscovered The scribe of what has been Archives of the many That have come before Countless shelves undiscovered On countless floors On countless floors On countless floors Archives of the many That have come before That have come before

When you see the flash of the swinging scythe Hear the silver chimes proclaim When it’s cold on your throne and the meadow’s sown Can your heart be set aflame When the moon is high in the bleeding sky No sight of the morning rays And the gods have all started screaming Can’t you hear them call your name Strange gods offer power Over hills and mountain range You were shown, ravens flown The story stays the same Now you’re deafened by the serpent Breathing honey in its words You can live your life immortal But your countryside will burn Strange gods offer power Over hills and mountain range You were shown ravens flown The story stays the same

Raise your medallion Mark of the savior calls the flood Shelter the chosen under the ground Gilded prophet cloaked in fire Descending from the silver spire Beams of moonlight lancing down Leaving scars on the hallowed ground Like the gentle falling snow Clinging to the weathered oak Our days were numbered from the start Always bound to fall apart

Chaos in the beholder’s eyes Losing count of the days Charmed broken or petrified Another animal caught in its cage It’s a still world Still world It’s a still world Still the world remains Nothing promised and nothing gained Still chained to your fate Within our dreams a cruel embrace Death tyrant’s labyrinth gaze It’s a still world Still world It’s a still world Still the world remains Still world

about

HOWLING GIANT take another huge step on their third full-length "Crucible & Ruin", a collection of sparking ideas, captivating melodies, and heavy riffing close to perfection - quite a feat of on-point songwriting for such a still young band! This is the band's first album to feature new fourth member Adrian Lee Zambrano. Although the guitarist and synth player arrived somewhat toward the end of the writing process, he was still able to add his mark with cool textures on the record. The extra guitar certainly adds even more punch to HOWLING GIANT 's sound, which delivers a slightly more aggressive approach compared with predecessor "Glass Future" (2023). They even leaned into some raw band live takes to capture the emotion in the room. HOWLING GIANT hail from Nashville, Tennessee, USA, sidestepping the self-proclaimed Music City's assembly line of modern pop country while taking inspiration from the brilliant songwriters and virtuoso session players that keep the town's musical legacy burning bright. Fertile ground for a preeminent fuzz-psych power trio, now turned quartet, who consciously live in the pocket of that lineage! HOWLING GIANT storm forward once more in defiant refusal to remain still. Having grown into a four-piece as well as in their prowess as musicians and songwriters, "Crucible & Ruin" is an album at least as big as their name. Don't take our word for it, just give it a spin – or two or three...
