When I was a kid I couldn’t get enough of the West Coast, Death Row rap scene. Nate Dogg was a big part of that and helped shape the sound from early on. That style of hip hop was often referred to as G-Funk. The ‘G’ is for ‘Gangsta,’ duh.

Death Row Records release of The Chronic featuring Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg tops the charts establishing the West Coast as an epicenter of rap and the G-funk style. Death Row Records signs some of the most well-known West Coast rappers, including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac Shakur.
