The best Christmas movies of the 1980s often took a slightly off-kilter view of the holiday period as this bunch of classics proves.

Lithgow stated years later: "It's just one of the tackiest movies I've ever been in. It seemed cheesy and it certainly never stuck...except in England. It is huge over there. I wish I had a nickel for every Englishman who's told me [it's their favorite film]".
