Rounding to the Nearest 10
Before we even begin rounding to the nearest ten, I love to use number paths. I have these huge long ones my students love…they can go all the way to 200! We start by locating a given number on the number path. Then we find the two tens this number lies between. Check out the number paths here to try this with your students...it's a huge help!
Rounding to the Nearest 10
Number paths aren't just for younger students... I use them for rounding to the nearest 10 with my upper-grade students too! I start with a blank number path and ask my students which two tens a given number is between. We fill out those tens first…then we complete the rest of the number path. We use crayons or highlighters to make those tens stand out. Then we do the same with the number itself, so the students can easily see which ten it is closer to. Grab your free copy here...

One little math tool that has made SUCH a difference for my math students!
