This platform bed is made of reclaimed Antique Pine beams from old buildings in New York City. It is solid, sturdy, and built to last several lifetimes over. It is a great piece of furniture you can pass down to future generations to come. The wood has a ton of gorgeous character from its previous life and on occasion you can catch evidence of a nail hole that left an ever so subtle stain from the metal. This is not your average bed from a store made up of cheap particle board that will weaken and break in a few years. In fact, Antique Pine is know for it strength and longevity, hence why buildings were made out of this stuff! The shape of the bed is very rectilinear, geometric, and clean. It plays a nice contrast to the old charactered wood. The bed frame is made of a 4″ frame with mortise and tenon and lap joinery. The frame includes twelve slats all spaced 3 to 4 inches apart so that your mattress will be evenly supported from top to bottom and it helps with the sturdiness of the structure. The frame sits on top of two large noteched boxes that support at both the front and back (and can serve as hidden storage). This all gives the frame the appearance of floating on top of these boxes with a nice cantilever on all sides. All together that is only 3 pieces that form this bedframe making it extremely easy to break apart if ever it needed to be moved and a set of bed slats that neatly roll up and come joined with cotton twill tape. No screws necessary to hold it together. The frame stays put with interlocking notches in the bottom boxes and works great! It is very sturdy. Finally, as an add on, we offer up to four solid rolling drawers that tuck neatly under the bed for lots of extra storage space. Drawers are made of aromatic cedar or maple with antique pine faces and a dovetail construction.
