Victorian style

The Victorian era was from 1837-1901. In architecture the main characteristics of a Victorian are narrow and tall, patterned bricks, Flemish brick bond, terraces, barge boards, decorated roof line, slate roof, finials, bay and sash windows, floor titles, stained glass, fire place in every room and therefore lots of chimney pots, porches, date stones, stairs, towers and turrets and asymmetrical design. Interiors where described as dark and gloomy and where often elaborately draped and stuffed with over sized furniture. In fashion rich women wore corsets under there dresses. Crinoline were worn under skirts making them very wide. Later in the period skirts were narrower with a bustle at the back. The length of skirts and dresses was very important! Low shoulder neck lines (décolleté style) and shawls were popular. For men frock coat, sack coat and waist coats, wide cravats breaches. Upper class men wore top hats, working class wore bowler hats, the blazer was introduced for casual activities men's hair was woren Farley short and was accompanied by various forms of facial hair including moustaches, side burns and full beards.
