Young Charles Landseer and his brothers were the sons of an engraver and were put under the direction of Benjamin Robert Haydon. Haydon enlisted the anatomist Charles Bell to set up some elaborate dissections, while he taught the boys how to draw them. Not talent or magic, but world-class, systematic training! It can make all the difference.
