Sometimes when you move into a new place, you don’t have time to wait on a “perfect fit” piece of furniture. For some necessary items, you might find yourself buying “for now” furniture, like designer Marcus Merta did. Once he moved into his new home, he needed a nightstand — and an IKEA VIKHAMMER model was the just-right fit since it was cheap, easy to assemble, and had a minimalist look and feel.

Proof of concept that an IKEA kallax is a great way to make a diy nightstand for rather high beds. Am I the only one having trouble finding a practical nightstand that high?

Ikea Malm Side Table Flip I flipped the entire Black Colored Ikea Malm set. I flipped the dressers and the nightstands to match our bed (from Macy's). Steps to Flip: 1. We sanded down the nightstands so the paint adhered better. 2. Spray painted with a white matte primer 3. Roll painted with a white matte paint 4. Purchased "shelf" wood from home depo and stained Cherry Brown 5. Wood Glued the wood onto the top of the nightstand 6. Installed fixtures from Amazon
