Screen - Screen Gems reflects on The Onion Field (1979) ... A 70’s gem, not as well-known as it thoroughly deserves to be! A look back ... No spoilers! I came across The Onion Field many years ago in my Cinema Studies but only saw it for the first time quite recently. The film, based on a true story, is a superbly structured piece which stays with you long after the credits have rolled. With a young James Woods and John Savage in the cast, both great actors, it’s certainly worth a viewing. Ted Danson makes his big screen debut and Christopher Lloyd appears in a small role. However, it is Frankyln Seales who almost steals the show with his measured and unforgettable performance. He also featured in Southern Comfort (1981) and it’s so sad to know that he died of AIDS in 1990, aged only 3
