1.1M views · 12K reactions | Easy Stovetop Mac and Cheese | Skip the box and make the good stuff! This Mac and Cheese is easy to make on the stovetop and it's ready in just 15 minutes.... | By The Stay | This is my go-to homemade mac and cheese that I've been making for forever. It only takes 15 minutes to make and it is so easy that my kids have been making it on their own since about age ten. I have fed it to hundreds of kids, hundreds of adults, and it is always a winner. First, you boil one pound of elbow macaroni. Then in another pot, you want to melt half a cup of salted butter. Once that's melted, we're going to add in half a cup all-purpose flour and then our seasonings which are one and a half teaspoons each of onion powder and ground mustard and then a little white pepper, half a teaspoon and then you want to add one teaspoon of salt. We're going to whisk this all together like it's a paste and you want to let this cook for about two minutes so you don't get a floury taste. Then we're going to slowly pour in three cups of milk. Whole milk if you've got it but 2% and 1% also work. Now, this is an old chef's secret. Julia Childs even shared it but if you want to enhance the flavor of cheese, you add a little bit of hot sauce. It doesn't add any heat. It actually just adds flavor. She would always add Tabasco sauce but I am a fan of Frank's Red Hot. So, I add in about two tablespoons. Then, you're going to need 8 ounces of shredded cheese. I'm using sharp cheddar for the best flavor but you can also mix and match with other melting cheeses and really get fancy or keep it simple. It'll only take three to five minutes or so for this sauce to get all thick. We'll grab a spoon here so you can see how that's nice and thick. This is the point where you add in your cheese. Freshly shredded is always going to melt better than your pre-shredded 'cuz those have anti-sticking regulation additives added in which prevents it from melting smoothly. Turn off the heat and let that cheese melt into this gorgeous, luxurious cheese sauce. To prove how fast this is, I set a timer on the pasta for 10 minutes. We've been filming this and the timer has 43 seconds left on it. Just enough time to set up our shot and drain the pasta. So you drain well and then it goes straight into the sauce. Then, get a load of this. Give it a stir and look at how creamy and dreamy this homemade mac and cheese is. Now, everyone always says they hate to say it but they actually love to say it so I'm going to go ahead and say it. I told you so. This is an easy mac and cheese. It produces absolute perfection here and everybody is going to love it. You're going to make it all the time too.
