At Times Network & IBM Consulting Forum 2025, we were privileged to host some of the top CIOs/CISOs at a successful roundtable on “GenAI’s Role in Accelerating Industry 4.0”, drawing on the collective insights of manufacturing technology leaders. Attendees underscored the unprecedented speed at which GenAI has enabled data-driven manufacturing, highlighting its potential to bridge operational silos across plant-wide and enterprise-wide systems. A key takeaway was the delicate balance between efficiency gains—such as improved production forecasting and reduced downtime—and the pressing need for trust, reliability, and human oversight in AI-led processes. Discussions also addressed the growing chasm between early adopters and those lagging, attributing success to cultural shifts and robust change management strategies. Cybersecurity threats were flagged as a critical concern, prompting shared best practices for safeguarding operational technology. Ultimately, the panel concluded that a human-centric approach remains vital: Industry 4.0’s transformation can be expedited through GenAI, but it must preserve skilled workers’ roles while fostering sustainability and innovation.
