Ancient Artefacts: A 2,400 Clay Model from Prehistoric Italy
Ancient Artefacts: showcasing interesting objects from the past, found at great archaeology sites in areas of the world that must be explored. This clay model depicts a banqueting scene, and was probably made about 2,400 years ago. Banqueting was an important funerary ritual in prehistoric Italy. This model was found at the entrance to a tomb at the archaeological site of Egnazia in Puglia (southern Italy). Egnazia is an incredibly fascinating site that was occupied for many hundreds of years, from prehistory, the Romans, to the Byzantines. Puglia, the heel of the Italian boot is the perfect destination for anyone interested in gastronomy and history.

Ishtar Gate in the Pergamon Museum, Berlin
Built in around 575 BC and dedicated to the gooddess Ishtar, the Ishtar Gate is now in the Pergamon Museum on Museumsinsel, Berlin. Excavations started in 1899 and the life size reconstruction was completed in 1930. Heads of Kings of Juda from Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris - Removed during the French Revolution
In 1977 the limestone heads were discovered during renovations to a building in Paris. These turned out to be the archaeological find of the century for Paris. As these and some 300 other pieces turned out to have been the sculptures from the Kings Gallery on the western facade of the Notre Dame. They had been removed during the French Revolution. The National Middles Ages Museum (Musée de Cluny) in Paris has a diverse collection of obejcts from various periods of the medieval era. This 13th century crosier is one of a number of beautiful crosiers. The ivory crosseron depicts the Adoration of the Magi, while the wooden shaft has scenes from the life of Christ. The Farnese Bull - National Archaeology Museum of Naples, Italy
Found in the Baths of Caracalla, a Roman bath house in Rome, this massive sculpture in white marble is a Roman copy of a Hellenistic original. It is widely thought to be the largest single sculpture yet recovered from antiquity.
