Climbing prairie rose has fragrant deep pink flowers two inches in diameter with many yellow stamens at the center. The clusters of blooms arrive in early to mid-summer, and fade slowly to white. Birds relish the showy red rosehips that forms in autumn.

Rosa arkansana (dwarf prairie-rose) is native to the central portion of the US and into Canada. It is a low-growing stoloniferous plant that can spread to form patches. Bloom time is from late June into July in northern Minnesota.
