Paced Bottle Feeding | Baby Feeding tips
Paced bottle feeding will help your sweet baby during feedings. Paced bottle feeding promotes infant driven feeding + is shown to decrease baby discomfort after feeding and overeating. The goal is to keep the flow rate from being too fast. It also helps the milk not just SPILL down the back of their throat. In my professional experience, paced bottle feeding helps babies that have difficulty going back and forth between the breast and bottle. Pregnancy Advice on Instagram: "When baby is in side lying position, we see: - baby is relaxed - jaw is forward - tongue is better able to cup and seal for suction - baby can establish suck/swallow/breathe rhythm - baby is in a more biological position for feeding - baby can go back and forth from breast/chest to bottle, this protects the nursing relationship because there is less chance of a FLOW PREFERENCE AND FINALLY - less air intake with bottle feeding! Baby follows their fullness cue
How to Pace Feed Your Newborn
Paced feeding is a technique that helps to mimic breastfeeding by allowing the baby to take control of the feeding process, reducing the risk of overfeeding, and promoting healthy feeding behaviors. This technique involves holding the bottle in a horizontal position, positioning the baby in an upright or slightly reclined position, and allowing the baby to pause, rest, and signal when they are full.
