Many of you probably already knew this but butter is basically heavy whipping cream that's just been whipped too far. Let me show you. Start mixing slowly, speed it up as it starts to thicken. This is your classic whipped cream. But as you keep going, you'll see it becomes grainy, almost curdled and starts to turn yellow. See that liquid that separates? It's buttermilk. Yes, you're getting butter and buttermilk all from the same cream. I mean, I knew it was going to happen but seeing it with your own eyes is truly fascinating. Place it in a bowl of cold icy water and strain your buttermilk. Don't worry, we're going to use it later. We're rinsing out as much of the liquid as we can. Your butter will keep longer. You can definitely do this in the sink with your faucet. I like using a bowl so I can see when the water runs clear. Look how creamy she looks. Here's where you can have fun and add your favorite seasonings or herbs. I like to sprinkle flaky sea salt and just keep them in cute jars for my morning toast. You also measure out butter sticks and roll them in parchment paper. This makes it so easy to use later since US recipes love to measure in sticks. Now, I don't have to tell you what we're going to use the buttermilk for, right? I mean, you have to make fluffy butter milk pancakes and you have all the butter you need for it. So, the next time you have heavy cream about to expire and you want to see just how easy it is to make your own homemade butter. Try it and let me know what you think.
