Paige | Budget DIY + Custom Carpentry + Design on Instagram: "You too can get the White Oak look for less, using Clear Pine + my favorite stain combo! We have used these exact materials time & time again, for multiple projects, to achieve the White Oak look I love! My go-to stain combo that works every time- One thing I do before even getting started on staining: sand the wood I’m working on. Sanding is a key step you do not want to miss, as it helps remove the yellow layer that is in a lot of woods. I start with 120/150 grit and then move to 220 so it gets nice & smooth! Once sanded, I apply Minwax Pre-Stain & wipe away any excess. This helps so the stain goes on evenly. After the allotted dry time, you need to lightly sand with 220 and then apply your 1st stain (Simply White) within an

What I did: -Stripped the black paint (you could use a carbide scraper instead of chemical stripper but even my carbide had a hard time with this paint. Plus too many curves on the base so I just made it easier on my hands/wrists) using GreenEz paint stripper -used GreenEz cleaning solution and a scour pad to clean residue -sanded all over with 120 grit -did two rounds of household bleach and let it dry in the sun -mixed 1 part tan paint (any water based would work) and 4 parts water and brushed on a paint wash and wiped it back with a t-shirt asap -matte topcoat (wise owl one hour clear) -liming wax all over for that weathered look! Leave any questions in the comments!"
Xiomara Bates •Home decor •DIYs •Furniture makeovers on Instagram: "Watch me transform this old oak table ! I started by stripping the legs using klean strip and I did sand after removing the stripper with mineral spirits. This was definitely a hard finish to remove so sanding was needed. For the top of this table it was 100% sanding. I wanted to go for a white oak look so I decided to use our new Raw Wash color . You can find it on our website Woodandhomeaccents.com . I used my favorite top coat by @behrpaint (matte polyurethane and now we have a brand new looking table. If you have any questions please leve them down below ⬇️. Kerry Willetts | Furniture Upcycler on Instagram: "👇🏼Here’s why you should do these 3 things 👇🏼 ✅ Remember to save this post ✅ 1️⃣ Use a light taupe shade of water based furniture paint rather than a white paint (mix of 30% paint with 70% water for the paint wash ) Why 👇🏼 This will give a lighter but more natural look to the wood instead of a full on white washed look 🪵 2️⃣ Mist spray water 💦 onto the fully stripped bare wood before applying the paint wash Why 👇🏼 This will open up the wood grain and help for a more even/ less blotchy coverage 👍 3️⃣ Use a good quality water based varnish to seal and protect What I used and why I use it 👇🏼 @polyvine_uk Dead flat wax finish varnish. This varnish goes on lovely! 2 coats gives fantastic protection 💪🏻 leaves a lovel

Oxalic acid ➡️ this one helps remove stains in wood such as water stains. If you apply it over a whole surface it can give the appearance of a lighter look by removing light surface staining. Here’s a Tip! Bar keepers friend has a small amount of oxalic acid in it so it can be great for making a paste and sitting on top of a stain. 2. House hold/laundry bleach➡️ Chlorine based bleach will remove dye from wood or offending bacteria but it won’t alter the natural colour. It can also destroy a component of the wood called lignin, altering the cellular structure causing it to break down. 3. Two part Wood Bleach ➡️ Two part wood bleach is the only one that will remove or alter the natural colour from wood. It is Sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide. It’s not guaranteed on all types of wood and the results will vary. Some wood won’t respond well. Ps. If you are in Australia and use the LitenIt kit, their formula is a secret formula and is non toxic. ⚡️ Comment ‘Bleach’ if you need links to the two part wood bleach we used. All 3 pose health risks so it’s important to wear the correct PPE according to the manufacturer. What I find interesting though, how many of us wear a mask if we use chlorine bleach in our homes? #bleachedwood #bleachedmahogany #furnitureflip #furniturerefimishing #toowoombaregion #australianfurniture | Ashley Krug | Aretha Franklin · Hello Sunshine

839K views · 1.8K reactions | How to get rid of the red👇🏽I often use bleach to mask red undertones before doing a paint wash. It’s such an easy way to get the color results I want.I use regular household bleach. Start with 50:50 bleach:water (I mostly use full strength now). You don’t need much. Paint it on w/ a paint brush (brush with the wood grain), sit it out in the sun for a few hours on a warm day and let the sun do the work. If there is still blotchiness, paint a 2nd coat on and set it in the sun. After multiple coats, one side didn’t want to dry, so I used my hairdryer to speed up the process. Once the bleach has dried for 24 hours, I spray a solution of water with vinegar to neutralize the bleach. BUT mixing bleach and vinegar is highly toxic so wait until the bleach has dried completely overnight. After it is dry, lightly sand to smooth the finish. Protective gear: Wear gloves, a mask and goggles and only bleach outside in a well ventilated area. There is also wood bleach if household bleach doesn’t work for you. But I have never needed to buy it! #furnituremakeover #furniturepainting #oldtonewfurniture | Shelly Chic Boutique | Shelly Chic Boutique · Original audio

There are an abundance of ways to lighten (or darken) furniture pieces but these are some tried and true methods we have and continue to use: 1. Paint washes. 3:1 Ratio of water and paint, brushed on and wiped off. Layer as needed and seal with a topcoat. 2. Wood bleach. This one is a two-part system, wiping on part A, waiting a few minutes before adding part B and letting it sit overnight. Repeat as needed (ideal for stubborn stains). 3. Faux wood kits. Apply the bottom color (this one has a
