THE NATURE OF ANGELS.

The Holy Scriptures represent the angels as, indeed, finite, because created, but intelligent and spiritual, therefore incorporeal beings, which, without needing a body, nevertheless have a personal subsistence. Angels are, further, intelligent substances, and very capable of becoming well acquainted both with themselves and with other things. They were originally created by God in order to promote His glory and to serve Him.

From this description of their nature, and of the design of their creation, as given in the Holy Scriptures, there follows the series of attributes which we are to ascribe to them, and whereby we become better acquainted with their nature.

The attributes of indivisibility, invisibility, immutability, immortality, eternal duration, illocality, definitive ubiety and agility. As intelligent beings, the angels possess the attributes of knowledge and freedom of the will, and, in view of the service for which they are designed, the attribute of power.
