Marina City is built in Chicago, Illinois in 1963. The building type is composed of 2 apartment towers, 60 stories each, out of which 40 floors are for apartments and the rest are for parking, laundry and storage. The Site is composed of a Hotel, an ice skating rink, an auditorium, TV station and other stores and cafe shops as a commercial component serving the residents of Marina City. The concept of this complex was to build a city within a city. The 3 acre site is very densely packed with no green space and filled with amenities and provides an unobstructed view to its residents all around the building. The apartment floors have 256 - Studio, 576 - 1 Bedroom and 64 - 2 Bedroom apartments, dispersed within two towers. The building depth is approx 110 ft and the type of use is composed of Residential, mixed use-multifamily housing, offices and parking.The units are very efficiently planned for maximum space utilization with a pie shape pattern and over the two towers, the floor are add up to 18.3 Acres which is about 6 times the are of the whole site and 40 times the building footprint. Method of financing this complex was privately financed with subsidies from public credits.
