Welcome To Cottesloe

To some seagulls are a pest  - to me they symbolize holiday....
This is Cottesloe.
Dear friend Grace picked me up and we met Monday-host and dear friend Sami for Sculpture by the Sea this March.
This, as many events in the Perth-area is for free, you pay only if you want (we sure did, as likely everybody, I love this idea).

Well, humans, animals, we´re all critters, don´t you think?
OK, these are sculptures, of course...

What are you ashamed of?
I remember a fellow student. Swimming lessons. "She" always went with her Mom to a single room to change into swimming clothes. Boy... girl, kinda both. Hope this person found a way to be happy.
With this I´d like to join...

 Eileen, of course.

Henry 🦁 sends my friend´s cat for a hello:

Max turns 19, if I am correct, soon. A skinny, sleepy Grandpa.
To family, to critters.
More sculptures on the way, of course!

Weather is un-summerly still. Glad we had Perth this year. I dreamed tonight of all the holidays we were happy to take... in summerly weather.

Addendum, as Tom let us know today is Barber Shop Appreciation Day - and I had no idea of this genre, let me share this:

Isn´t that wonderful? Funny? Wonder if they have pocket-watches in there, attached to the chains?
My Dad was also a watch maker... and he´d loved this!

Meet Critter Limpy

I got a set to crochet this Lion.
Ages 8+.
I was too dumb and gave it to my friend fK. Also an engineer.
It took her 3 months and she finished Limpy yesterday at NAMASTE after lunch.

Why I named him Limpy?

By accident (haha) his right arm is "hanging down" - just like mine!
I once broke it, the bone got infected blablabla, I cannot do everything with that "cucumber-arm" no more.

And then came Limpy! Ingo calls him a new family member as often the disabled end up here.

From all the sitting when being made his tail stays up, too.
She bought more wool to make a second, now that she learned how that goes!
Her wife can sew (well, actually Ingo as well...) and she could help.

What fK also gave me...

Her kids don´t need them no more so now - come I am allowed to do real sport again I have no excuse to not start on the Halfbike!
Wish me luck I manage. mT is positive about this.

After NAMASTE (Indian Streetfood, I took home 2/3 of a small portion) we had frozen yoghurt.
I could by no means eat that all.
But it was a fun meet-up.

Imagine: Two women, one shows the other pics on the smartphone.
Guess.
The new bogie!!! 🤣
I just BET men thought she shows me pics of her kids or holidays... Bogie - but this one was her baby kinda, too!  (A bogie is part of a railway car.)

fK now has a copy of the Aussie-calendar (pic one) - see Wednesday 1st for the next story and I also got her this:

An owl is a critter, too!
She often has long days due to the twins and I fell in love with this cookie cause it says:

"WACH IST DAS SCHöN." It´s with caffeine. You actually say:
"ACH IST DAS SCHöN." - WAch means awake, "ACH" means, "MY, IS THAT NICE."

If a bit different, this is for...

Eileen´s Critters! Hope these count...

Henry 🦁

 "You are safe with me!"

P.S. I sadly have to leave you with a processed animal....

Foreign Minister (!!!) Annalena Baerbock was in South Africa and wanted to say....
"South Africa’s path to freedom has been a beacon of hope ..."
But... she...
"South Africa’s path to freedom has been a bacon of hope ..."

And she was not speaking free, she read it from her notes, too!

So now here in Germany (only?) everyone is making fun of her:

Wow. I think this is so super-embarrassing... she should get fired? I mean... I never heard anything that made sense from her. And now she managed to make the world laugh about Germany. Also her pronunciation... uhhhh, boy. And Ingo said she was in London for a longer time even! Embarrassing....
But, you know... I nearly feel sorry for her.
Bacon of hope 🥓... I think pigs don´t really see it that way! I would want to vanish!!!
Maybe that´s Vodka, not water in her bottle/glass... I was told at Siemens (at least that one team) when the project is on hold they do just that, drinking vodka!!!! Good they had no me in that project.... I already get knocked out by raspberry-schnapps! > 🥓🥐

Hope you love bacon. Have a great Saturday!

If you speak German... look here. She claimes the attack on the US was on September 9th (she tries to refer to 9/11).

I end with this, thank you, Tom:

Waiting For Warning #2?

Private and company phone went off like crazy with this "warning" -  I am way over a kilometer away. Why make peeps panic for nothing, now I wait for the phones going off again to tell me I am safe?
Oh, boy....
In German and English, too. Not in Turkish!
!! ️ Within one kilometer of the commercial area Schöppenstedter Turm, the area must be evacuated. Please leave this area! There is an explosion danger.
Due to a fire in the commercial area Schöppenstedter Turm, there is a strong development of smoke, which is widely visible. The fire brigade is already deployed.
Please only call 112 if you want to report an emergency that is not fire related.
Recommendation for action:
👉️ Avoid the affected area.
👉️ Drive around the affected area extensively.
👉️ Close windows and doors and turn off vents and air conditioning.
The Feuerwehr Braunschweig will keep you informed and inform you when the danger is over.
Current warning from the Federal Office for Population Protection and Disaster Assistance:
My heart races due to job-problems anyways!!!
Henry popped up lovely in post #1 from today.... It´s T-Day, not Panic Day!

Addendum:  Ingo came home saying he saw the black smoke, too... uhhh....

"Summer" In the City Part I

No whining, just documenting on how summer 2023 is here in Braunschweig/Germany.

 Week three now.

More of these big guys to come...

Henry 🦁

Maybe we need bad summers to appreciate the better ones even more...

If the weather was "summer" I´d join Ingo who has two weeks off.
But Ingo feels exhausted and needs a break and I don´t feel like holidaying plus we have a due-date with the handbook.

Cold, very windy morning...

T STands For Ta-Daa

Ingo has three days off and hence here is my entry to
Elizabeth´s T!

And this is not all... Henry 🦁 pays his visit at the beginning, too, do you spot him?

Art-wise I tried this:

And again the journal, if you care:

Monday: Spanish customer C whilst thinking, sharing his screen: "Pa-pa-pa-PAM..."
Found out the Spanish pronounce my name the same as in German and N at the end of the meeting  exclaimed: "For today I´m happy!"
Had time for some pages of the The Simpsons Math-book.

Got Ingo´s bread and Ingo made Toast Hawaii.

Tuesday: Summer, no sport but book on the balcony!
Toast Hawaii.

Wednesday: "Ta-da-da-daa....". German N whilst sharing and thinking.
I´m not alone!!
Dunno... do they all copy what I brought in from Siemens with "Mi-mi-mi-mi"? 🤣
Summer - brolly up and sketching on the balcony.
Ahhh, those are the times!
Toast Hawaii.

Thursday: We need to get Corinna-tested for the summer-party, so off I went to the White Horse SC.
And whilst the nice lady evaluated my test - which takes 20 minutes - I saw a cute, comphy looking pair of shoes, reduced by 20%, too.
Tried on, fit, bought.
Went back, got them in another color.
The sales lady laughed and told me they are so beautiful and comphy, she has them in all colors!
So, yes. Three new pairs of shoes in two weeks.
Oh, come on. I wore my winter shoes till they fell apart!
Toast Hawaii. Hmmmm... SO yummy!

Yummy, and reminds me of Mum.
In hospital Hannover the three of us went to the canteen a couple of times.
Mum could not eat, but Bro and I enjoyed their super-yummy Toast Hawaii and Mum was happy. Well. As happy you can be when you can guess this was it...

Comphy cheapies!

Friday: We call the Pantograph now lovingly "Panto" - and yes, it came from the men, not me 😍
N and I worked hard and then talked bout private stuff, it was fun!
Then Ingo got up my bike from the cellar and I drove to ESE for the summer festival where one of the bosses gave us all way too much Jägermeister, LOL.

Saturday: Ingo went grocery shopping after a long day in the city where I got a Guido´s Pizza to take home, hmmmmm - and we had some Poretti, of course! The guys to the left even asked Ingo about it - the female guys!
And then Ingo went grocery shopping and brought me beautiful sunflowers!!!

Sunday: Die Maus. Sunflowers!!!
And a bagpipe! The Elephant always helps - be it watering the flowers or playing that instrument. He mends all broken stuff! Not in a China Store, this fella is clever.

Reminds me of my T! Ingo bought a bagpipe, it was plain awful.
I knew T loves that music and asked him if he wants the darn bagpipe, which he certainly did.
Saw it in the corner, beautifully displayed on a visit and asked how it´s going.

Him: "Not at all. I forgot I have two missing fingers... I cannot play it! 🤣🤣🤣"
Years backwards he always hid his hand - until one summer he saw my badly scared arm and revealed his hand, that was about that!
He now even wears a ring on that hand.

Both of us survived a bad accident and we take the scars with humor.

Food-wise, a quickie:

That was it for T today - have a fun one!

What´s Your Read?

View from our swing up.
Yes, I admit, sometimes I lay just down and it may even happen I doze off!

In this former window you find heaps (not all) books I have and my current read (actually I have three) is this:

See my little toy-tram representing project Frankfurt?
I hope one day I will be able to hop on!

After all it comes in one of my fav colors!

Or do I? We discuss what happens in case of fire since two weeks.
And that come wind in 120 km/h+ the  pantograph may loose contact.
(Germans test this! I would stay home in such wind...)

Ever since I know that I look up at the pantographs when a tram passes by - we live right around the corner of a crossing point.
Funny how I never cared about trams before I knew such details.

We even discuss asbestos as the screws´ coating comes from China.
Yes. We talk about screws - you can say I´m deeply involved! 🤣
Who would ever have thought so - not me.
So... it was natural to buy this book.

And whilst some go for a ciggie / a smoke, I read one or two pages in  a book.
The eyes need a break from time to time, don´t you agree?

Not that guy, but the rail.
Tomorrow the ESE has a summer-festival and I have to go / ride my bicycle and will go by this place.
Oh, I hate such events, esp as "the new one".
Everybody sees me, one person, one name.
Easy.
Me????
I have difficulties per se to remember names and faces.
Not funny.

I´ll have to brave up and go.
Three people already asked if I´ll be there and I only met one in person so far.
And the boss. What if I do not recognize him????!
Stress.
F said he´ll be there in time - the food might be gone too soon, LOL.
He´s new, too. I´ve talked to him often and have no idea how he looks like.

It´s like being blind - I´ll have to find out by the sound of his voice.
Oh, boy-oh-boy.

Henry 🦁

The Braunschweig tram is all around me !

To books, any tips  from your side what to read (no, don´t, I have too many already! 😉)

T STands For AusTralia And SummerTime

Monday: Work was a bit crazy (what else).
Got bread for Ingo (counts as sport), had the first salad of the season and some popcorn with cheese watching a docu on Australia - Blowies without end inclusive!
Remember... Aussies are very friendly people, but all the waving just shoos the little flies away, I can tell you from darn experience!

We would´ve long booked a flight to Perth, but, alas. Corinna...

Tuesday: Quiet day at work!!!
I checked documents, nearly "cried" (really, work properly!) and attended the most boring meeting with C from Barcelona inviting us on a weekly basis - there is always something to laugh!
Boy. I would really love to visit him there! Barcelona!

Worked less than 8 hours, read a fun Braunschweig-book inbetween!
And later a bit sport with DE.

Wednesday: A document had changed - luckily we found out before I gave it to the translation office.
MS Word is still rather new to me so I asked if N or J would like to take my PC.
Nope.
Nope. Argh!!! I had to prove (and did) I remembered what they taught me a while ago and learned new stuff - whilst being watched!
N said, "yupp, like being at the chalkboard in front of the whole class. Just.... with TWO teachers watching 😱🤣"

Later with the customer N gave the intro and... I shared again. And.... had to do it all by myself!
STRESS!!!

Next... new guy from Spain - he got it all explained - I had to jump into "cold water" back then!

Summer came back, off to the balcony to read - no sport. N and also Ingo said: DO!!! ENJOY!

Thursday: J invites to a meeting and to my surprise it goes, "Iris, can you share, please?"
WHAT????!
Yes, it was my "work", but I sent it to J!
If you don´t hear from me again, I got a heart attack or such!
Boy.
I got it all done but I grew a bit older for sure!
You invite, you share your monitor! Mehhh. I thought, LOL.

SUMMER!!! Ingo put up the huge sun-brolly for me and I did not do any sport but enjoyed another Braunschweig-thriller on the balcony.
After, pfffft... the new guy from Spain complained it´s so hot in his place.
After he quit N & I (both "Aussie-proofed") joked about that.
Also I told N what a great job he did with the new guy and that E should´ve done that for me.
N was sorry he did not do this - not his job! - and was happy about the compliment.

See. It´s tough work, but we have fun, too!!
Ingo made a yummy dinner, hmmm.

Friday: Wonders do happen! N shared his monitor for a long while, then me, then the new guy from Spain and then N had it - off to the balcony/garden he sent us!

I didn´t "obey", went to the city with Ingo instead and met Charlie Chaplin on the way!
And then had the first Guido´s 2022, yummmmmmm....

Weekend: Saturday I joined Ingo coffee-shopping, braved up, asked the sales-lady where she got the shoes from and  shortly after had the same ones - chic and soooo comphy!
First BBQ of the year...

With which I turn to food, right?

Mum would be so proud!

Sadly Bro let them all go, mine are the last of our family.
So fresh, sweet and yummy.
And certainly:

Summer, eh?
Brolly up, can at hand...

Thanks to Elizabeth I fall for new drinks, Kiez is another word for "Reeperbahn (which) is a street and entertainment district in Hamburg's St. Pauli district, one of the two centres of Hamburg's nightlife" (wiki).
Alster is a mix of lemon and beer.

Since I did not try yet this is not my entry for Elizabeth´s T, but rather this:

Henry 🦁

"There is always a Daddy, too!
And!!! You forgot: Ingo played mailman again!"

Thank you, Kathy!!!  You made my day yesterday! 😍
To bees (who gave me all the strawberries) and honey, oh so sweet, I loved this!
And maybe it´s not only Kathy who wonders about the daily Lion, so here goes:

Duke Henry the Lion was the founder of Braunschweig.
It is told he went to Africa and saved a real Lion´s life who never left his side and came hence back with his human to Braunschweig.
The Duke was not very creative and named the Lion... well... Henry.
"The Lion soon became the heraldic animal of Braunschweig". (wiki).

You find heaps of Lions here, hence, but I think I presented most already, so FB is another source.

To Henry! And bloggy-friends, and snail mail!
