Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura)
Princess, one of twelve residents at Treetop, turns 30 this year! If you’ve visited Oak Mountain State Park and stopped by Treetop or hiked the Treetop Trail, you probably noticed her striking appearance. Turkey vultures are primarily black and dark brown, but Princess lacks melanin production, resulting in her all white plumage. This condition also causes brittle or weak feather production, ultimately effecting her flight. She’s been a resident of Oak Mountain State Park since 1994.
