Turkish veiled women

The veil was meant to protect the woman from getting tanned.It was never meant to hide her face from shameless men's staring. The veil was also meant to protect the woman from the smelly and dusty air in the slim passages in the city. As outdoor clothing wealthy women in Istanbul would wear a big coat which should protect the inner clothes that were made of very fine embroidered silks, from stenches and smells. It became fashion and was copied by less wealthy women. It had no religious reason!
