A six track EP of battle ready disjointed hip hop beats, industrial bass and psychedelic sound design - featuring rappers Onoe Caponoe and L-Zee Roselli on the title track - 'Space War' is Ivy Lab's final release of 2019.
“The Space War EP feels like quite an eccentric project. Its bleak sci-fi-hop aesthetic is home soil for us, but we’re also experimenting more than ever before with tempo, structure and sound design. We knew If there was to be a vocal feature it needed to channel that same sense of adventure and Both Onoe and L-zee are genuinely amongst the most compelling yet unconventional rappers in the UK."
- Ivy Lab
North London outfit Ivy Lab were brought together out of a shared enthusiasm for experimentations on the fringes of the UK bass music scene. The duo of Sabre (Gove Kidao) and Stray (J. Fogel), released their acclaimed debut album ‘Death Don’t Always Taste Good’ in 2018 (“A sound that finds a middle ground between drum & bass, dubstep, hip-hop and techno, powered by colossal sound design” Resident Advisor), produced one of BBC Radio 1’s top five Essential Mixes of the year, played worldwide from London to Tokyo to Berlin to New York, and continued to build the 20/20 LDN stable.
In 2019 Ivy Lab have produced a solid output of innovative music. The warped beats and distorted sound effects of 'Gunk' featured ferocious verses by hyped LA rapper IceColdBishop in March, July's 'Stars' EP with Barclay Crenshaw (AKA Claude VonStroke) saw a more soulful side to their sound, and two tracks - 'Orange' and 'Hotline' - have been released from a fruitful collaboration with Two Fingers (Amon Tobin).
Across 'Space War' EP, Ivy Lab explore myriad energies from the aggressive to the transcendent to the fantastical. British Alt-rap veteran Onoe Caponoe and his on-the-rise affiliate L-Zee Roselli team up to deliver biting verses over the already fearsome 'Space War 169', combining their outsider influences of everything from punk rock to horror rap. As 20/20 LDN moves into its fifth year, Ivy Lab continue to progress their sound ahead of the scene they helped to create.
