    Janette Mason is an extremely talented Jazz musician. Not only that, she plays keyboards in my band, Holy Holy. I have had the pleasure of hearing her latest album. She re-imagines Classic Rock songs by Bowie and Bush, the Golden Age of Standards by Rogers and Hart and other great melodies. Her latest oeuvre ReWired is gorgeous, relaxing and even challenging, but never a dull moment.

    Janette Mason has a storied career playing for multiple artists across the worlds of jazz and pop. As a session player she’s toured with some of the biggest pop names in the business, and as a bandleader she’s released a series of acclaimed jazz albums featuring some of the UK’s most respected players.

    For her latest release, ReWired, she’s selected a basket full of all the tunes that mean the most to her, from timeless standards to modern chart classics, and reworked each of them with her long-time collaborators Tom Mason on bass and Eric Ford on drums. With Janette at the helm, the original tunes’ irresistible melodic personalities are daringly expanded and reconfigured by the trio so that they delight the listener anew with the depth and sophistication of jazz while retaining the direct appeal of pop. Janette first encountered Gary Numan’s classic 80s synth-pop anthem ’Cars’ as a rebellious teenage punk rocker. Now she’s an equally rebellious jazz musician, as this compelling reworking demonstrates. The infectious riffs get a thorough reharmonisation but keep their edgy appeal, with bass and drums keeping the pressure up, until a dramatic breakdown leads us into a monumental slow build up to a climactic release - like that moment when the traffic drops away and the clear road opens out ahead.
