Jill Magi’s My Penelope, forthcoming in early 2026 from Essay Press, gathers over fifteen years of critical writing, lyrical essays, and reviews — on themes including documentary and poetry, race and the avant-garde, class and art-making, and ecopoetics. In 2027, Nightboat Books will publish Hinge: Remember Me to Textiles, a book-length meditation on textiles, writing, and a disposition to life, art, and politics called “textilic.” A seed for this project can be found in the commentaries she wrote here for Jacket2 in 2014. She is the author of six full-length poetry collections, numerous handmade books collected by the University at Buffalo library, and has shown her visual work internationally in mostly non-profit spaces. Based in Vermont and Alabama, after living in the Emirates for eleven years, Jill is learning the shape of America, again. She teaches university students to trust the embodied, generative intelligence of the hand and hand-writing, encouraging degrowth computing in the classroom and in educational spaces whenever possible.
