Moon Lit is about walking up to the fact that you might just be chasing the nostalgia of imaginary summer love. It's about catching yourself dreaming of lustful, humid, summer nights that keep you in a perpetual loop of hypothetical excitement for the unknowns just around the bend. But in reality, these kinds of nights are now filling you with emptiness and maybe don’t serve you as well as they used to. I just remember being really hung up on writing the lyrics “always searching for the ghost of the you before” and not knowing if I meant the ghost of the person I thought I was dating or chasing the person I used to be who felt so comfortable in the chaos summer can bring.
lyrics
Oooooh Ooooh
Feeling blue in the wak
of a Moon lit summer night
Do I leave it alone?
Am I wasting my time?
You know it.
Gets hard not to show it
Is it late or early?
always leaving on time
You always look so nervous
As if you're new to goodbyes
Tonight's alive
and I've been waiting
surprised to find
her mind is changing
gets hard to be
the one not faking
always searching for the ghost of the you before
How come you look so nervous?
Who you fooling this time?
If you got to break a good man's heart
Maybe save it for the next guy
Tonight's alive
and I’ve been waiting
Surprise surprise
that I’m mistaken
Gets hard to be
the one not crazy
Always searching for the ghost of the you before
I’ve been searching for the ghost of the you before
Oooh you know it. It's hard not to show it
Ooooh its over. It's my fault I chose her.
