about

Newcastle-based singer-songwriter Joe Ramsey makes a heartfelt return in 2025 with his brand-new single, ‘Mornings’, a melancholic yet hopeful indie folk offering that swells from reflective stillness into a full-band anthemic track.

After the release of his debut EP ‘Making Notes’ in 2022, Ramsey has spent the past few years refining his sound — one that seamlessly blurs the intimate lyricism of a solo artist with the vibrant dynamism of indie rock. ‘Mornings’ continues this evolution, marking a bold yet introspective chapter in his discography.

Built around a theme of seizing the day while navigating emotional inertia, ‘Mornings’ reflects on the hazy mental state that defines many of our early hours.

“‘Mornings’ explores the haze of brain fog and the feeling of disconnect that defined my mornings during an unconventional time. I would then feel productive later in the day, where the reason behind the line ‘am I living all the lives that I craved’ was inspired - questioning whether I was doing all I could.”

With production from James Kenosha (Mosa Wild, PASTELS, Gavin James), the track showcases polished indie folk textures, weaving Ramsey’s emotive vocals through bright guitar lines and an organic rhythm section. The result is a sound that recalls the likes of Ken Yates and Ben Howard, yet remains distinctly Joe Ramsey: authentic, raw, and quietly uplifting.

lyrics

I keep missing the mornings
And I wish I was awake
There’s no lessons I’m learning
Sleeping in a state of all that it takes

To make a lining in the sand
To cross the desserts of the land
Do I own it?

The differences are plain to see
The less I breathe it openly
Do I long for it?

Have I been losing all the time that it takes
Of course it is
And do I recognise the life that I lead
I know it is
A privilege to render
Imagining the waste
Have I been living all the lives that I craved

I keep missing the mornings
And I can’t say it’s a mistake
I’m realising that it’s all too long
A subconscious thing to break it away

To write a letter in the hand
To make myself a better man
Do I long for it?

Have I been losing all the time that it takes
Of course it is
And do I recognise the life that I lead
I know it is
A privilege to render
Imagining the waste
Have I been living all the lives that I craved
The question is
The question is

Hold tight or let it go
I’ll try it on my own let’s go
Don’t keep the curtain closed
It’s too hard only December knows

Hold tight or let it go
I’ll try it on my own let’s go
Don’t keep the curtain closed
It’s too hard only December knows

Hold tight or let it go
I’ll try it on my own let’s go
Don’t keep the curtain closed
It’s too hard only December knows

Have I been losing all the time that it takes
Of course it is
And do I recognise the life that I lead
I know it is
A privilege to render
Imagining the waste
Have I been living all the lives that I craved

Have I been losing all the time that it takes
Of course it is
And do I recognise the life that I lead
I know it is
A privilege to render
Imagining the waste
Have I been living all the lives that I craved
The question is
(I keep missing the mornings)
The question is
(I keep missing the mornings)
The question is
