In Herd Vectiv i’m struck by its relative placidity - the usual agitation is stretched out, still present, but submerged and unfolding over a longer duration. always nice to hear Rodgers voice too, their collaborations have always been some of my favorites. i'm glad Rodgers gets a significant chunk of time to develop his ideas. Wall has historically avoided more sustained/droning type sounds but i think he’s found a way of doing it here - the sustained aspects are buried in the mix and still disrupted at points, creating an ever-present tension rather than some kind of cathartic or immersive "release" - at the same time there is an unexpected sentimentality and melancholy to this that absolutely does recall DJ E (though i don't think i would've made that connection if Wall hadn't pointed it out to me). this general idea of finding and creating tension even in sustain and hints of tonality is, i think, a newer one for him and i'd be interested to see how these ideas develop...
