119 reactions · 30 comments | Outdoor Window Awning 🖤 Jose is back at it with another DIY he designed for our outdoor space which means I had to be a project manager for the weekend. 😂 Headed to my favorite nursery @glendoragardens to pick up some star Jasmine, the cutest olive tree ball tree and another one of their amazing vases. I couldn’t help myself and also picked up a creeping fig for our garage wall. Here is what we did for our 16ft space: 1. Anchored five 2x6 boards that we cut into 3 ft long supports and tapered them down one inch and placed them off the wall spaced 4ft apart 2. Painted and mounted the 2x2’s 8ft long boards along the top of the supports and spaced them evenly apart. 3. Painted everything in Limousine Leather by Behr prior to hanging. Check my stories today or the link in my bio for all the links to the supplies we used 🔗 Part two we will add a cement floor rectangular planter for the start Jasmine and a wire trellis to finish off the Space. 1K views · 177 reactions | Outdoor Plant Wall 🌱 part two ✌🏼 For this project, in part one we added two wooden window planter boxes and a window awning to this area of our backyard. (Part one in my stories today)🤎 We decided to go with the Star Jasmine climbing plant (super durable & Fast growing) because with time it would be able to make its way up to the top awning and create a beautiful shaded landscape for this area. DIY Cement Planter Box details: • Jose first created a mold out of wood of the exact measurements we were looking for. *We went DIY on this part because cement planter boxes are so expensive 🫠 •He then mixed the cement, poured it and let it sit for a few days •Removed the molding and then had to sand down some areas to even out the sides and top of the planter box •He then used a very FINE cement mixture to coat and fill in any holes on the outside of the box and sealed it. • We added metal black trellises to the wall because metal is more durable and it will be covered by the plants eventually 🌱 •We did decide on drilling holes in our cement flooring/base of the planter because we wanted to ensure proper drainage and long term wanted the plants to have a solid foundation to grow. *We filled the holes with small rocks to make sure soil didn’t get too compacted and prevent proper draining of water. •We also added a layer of Drylok Waterproofer to help protect our exterior wall from moisture.
