about

Cosmic pop meets Greek philosophy on a danceable groove inspired by Retro Tokyo sound. Arranged by the Japanese synth-pop maestro Seiki Sato (佐藤清喜) known for his works with microstar and nicely nice, the fourth single release by Jun, is his first exclusively English-language single, and takes the listener on a mind journey.

In Plato’s allegory of cave, the truth of reality is hidden behind you. Shadows are cast on the wall. We are made to believe the shadows to be the truth, when in actual fact, what we thought were the truths are mere shadows. In the mind of the protagonist, the gimmick is becoming unravelled. A man and a woman are tied by chains in this cave – in a new twist to the allegory. Shall we turn back and face the truth of reality? The protagonist says, well ‘I would just prefer to be with you...’

Staying true to Jun’s signature retro Tokyo melody making, the cosmic pop journey will make your feet tap along and your mind to question – the reality vs illusions, love vs seeking the truth of reality.

As the dance goes on, the chorus repeats the imageries

“We are dancing in the dark. Dancing with the shadows, of whom? It is something we will never know. A blind leading a blind, at least, our anatomies align…” – feel the philosophical anguish and his anti-platonic conclusion to this plight. The song is an amalgamation and distillation of millennial knowledge of mankind, at the same time, a surreal fusion with the modern night club scene.

lyrics

Verse

To be, or not to be

How about we take a sidestep from this

To me, what matters to me

Contemplating the complicated machinery of you

I understand it

Implications of your imperfect design

Rather than,

Be consternated with impermanence of us, inescapable demise

And all that’s yet to be defined?

Chorus

Dancing in the Dark, We all are (Yes we are), Dancing in the Dark

Dancing with the shadows, of whom?

Something we will never know

Dancing in the Dark, We all are (Yes we are)

A blind leading a blind

At least our anatomies align, Ooo…

Verse 2

To see, or not to see

How can we ever be unchained

To me, what matters to me

Entertaining never-ending vagaries of you

I stay confounded with intricacies of your cosmological mind

Rather than,

Elucidating the trickeries of life

What belies the veil of lies

And all that’s meant to be divine?

Chorus x 2
