I really like the way birds stand on one leg to sleep - their balance is spot on isn't it!
I'm doing a two in one post today. Flitting between Stewart's Wild Bird Wednesday (oops, its Thursday already Susan!!) and Theresa's Good Fences.
Bird tracks are another thing I love looking at - think it dates back to when Dad used to show us, as kids, how to make fake animal tracks in the dirt.
I've lots of photos of tracks - oh, I can keep you fascinated for hours on end (ha ha) but I'll restrict to just 2 ;D)
Loved this sky - oh those clouds !!!
Here's a little quote I enjoy:
"Now, if God made the clouds so beautiful, did He not mean us to gaze upon them and be thankful for them? ~ Alfred Rowland"
.... walking up off the sand and into the scrub, here's a first glimpse of a fence:
... turning back for a last look (for a day or so!), the fence frames a most beautiful scene I'm sure you'll agree :D)
Thanks for coming along on this little walk. By clicking on each of these photos you'll be able to see lots of other birds and fences (and all that they encompass), shared by many lovely bloggers here and all over the world. Cheers !!
Update: Just to let you know that your comment won't appear immediately anymore. I regretfully have to resort to comment moderation because of spammers.
enjoyed this walk along the beach with you very much! smiled at the thought of your dad teaching you to make animal and bird tracks. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much T, and, yes, he could do lots! :D)
DeleteInteresting series.
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil :D)
DeleteYes, it is funny how birds rest on leg. Their balance is amazing. Love your photos.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynda, ... especially when they're asleep! :D)
DeleteI love your posts Susan - always enjoy seeing what you see where you live. Love the seagulls!
ReplyDeleteand also the bird tracks.
Aw thank you Sandy... yes, I remember that you have a special liking for seagulls, both in your photos and drawings - they've got a lot of character haven't they! :D)
DeleteLove all the sunny beach photos. Nice gull shots, too.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Janice and I'm glad you enjoyed our walk on the beach :D)
DeleteIf one of our chickens gets loose you'll be the first person I'll call in to track it down - I promise.
ReplyDeleteThis is yet another lovely, happy, fun post from you. Thanks for that.
And the sky shot is quite excellent.
Have a lovely Thursday.
Ha ha, ok Derek!
DeleteThanks for your comments - very much :D)
Hello Susan, wonderful beach shots!
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with that beautiful sky and
the last one of course - great view and
colours! :))
And now please teach me how to make
fake animal tracks :D
Have a beautiful day
【ツ】Knipsa
Many thanks Knipsa - unfortunately it all went downhill after the other day. We've had howling winds all last night and today and the sea is roaring and full of whitecaps!
DeleteAh, yes, fake animal tracks... well, as I remember, hold the tips of your thumb and next two fingers together and press = kangaroo tracks. Hold your hand sideways, make a slight curve with the length of your fingers and palm and touch the ground with that curve leaving a space in between=the grooves a moving snake makes as its rippled body hits the dirt or sand! Lots more but they're the ones that made the most impression on me :D) Cheers now!
Thank you Susan, I'll give it a try next
Deletetime I'm at the beach :))
Yes I agree, a beautiful area, lovely blue skies and sleeping wildlife.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed it too Margaret :D)
DeleteSo many beautiful things in your post! Thanks for them all!! I love the sleeping birds - that habit of tucking the head under the wing is one of the things that makes shorebird ID so challenging. The footprints in the sand are beautiful - I keep on telling myself that if I photographed enough of them I might be able to tell which species made which print - but so far it is just too hard :-( Any and all beach scenery is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeaut of you to say Mick, thank you. Yes, I should catalogue mine too, but, then that'd just make more folders and files of photos... perhaps my chaotic method is best left alone ;D) Thanks for your visit.
Deletep.s. yes, you're so right Mick - there's something soothing and peaceful being in, on or near the beach... even hearing the ocean sounds throughout the night is just wonderful :D)
DeleteHow super that your Dad taught you how to make animal tracks. My love of nature came from my Dad. These are great photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Denise - it's lovely how an interested parent can make such a lifelong impression isn't it. Glad you enjoyed and that you could share that too :D)
DeleteLove the sky...and that beach...great shots
ReplyDeleteHello Annie, that's beaut, thanks for your comment and visit :D)
DeleteGreat pictures Susan. I was fortunate to win the two cards of yours that Maria was giving away and I love them. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Lin, oh that's so nice of you to say and it's a special treat when I think of them all the way over there with you, all due to Maria's kindness :D) Thanks for popping over!
DeleteThose clouds! wonderful. I saw some amazing ones yesterday too. Some people spend hours looking at the sky, watching the weather, and sometimes I can see why they do. You do live in a lovely place. The grey plumage in the first photo looks so cosy.
ReplyDeleteCloud gazing is such a lovely thing to do - and for those clever people able to name all the clouds... I salute :D) Thanks for your beaut comments... they do look comfy cosy don't they :D)
DeleteWonderful beach photos!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Marie... your comments are always so welcome :D)

Beautiful photos, Susan. As far as moderating comments, I fully comprehend. I moderate those on my own blog as well, as it is family friendly and I wish to keep it this way. Warm greetings from Montreal, Canada. :)

DeleteOh oh Susan! I didn't realize that you weren't
ReplyDeletein Theresa's link list. I added Paulines blog,
I could have added yours also :(
But I got lost in your shop, fell in love with a
white tote bag and a white pillow and forgot
about everything else...
I guess you know which white ones I mean ;)
Next week I'll remember, I promise!
Hi Knipsa, that's quite fine, no worries. I make little notes beside my pc and in (our) morning then I link.... oh such chaos might reign without my notes though ;D)
DeleteMany thanks for your kind thoughts and I'm glad you liked your little browse over there as well, it's a nice activity that I can do with my paintings :D) Cheers now!
The perfect place to be right now..... SWEET..
ReplyDeleteblessings,

Absolutely! Thanks for your visit Shug :D)
DeleteVery pleasant walk. Those clouds are stunning. Yes I think it's fun to see birds standing on one leg like that. Loved the beach shots with the fencing. A place to truly soak in the beauty of nature.
ReplyDeleteHi Ida and thank you... yes, beauty and nature go hand in hand don't they :D)
DeleteYour beaut photos have me hankering for sand and sea. It seems like forever since we've been to the coast. Thank you for the trip. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend, Sue. xx
You must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky .... ooooh apologies to the poet John Masefield (I had to look him up) - your words immediately put that poem into my mind Vicki. Glad you enjoyed the views... Cheers and hugs xoxoxo
DeleteHello Susan, what a wonderful visit to the beach. I love the sleeping birds and the gorgeous sky. Great fence scene, the path and view of the water is beautiful. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi there Eileen, and thank you. So glad you enjoyed them all ... have a great weekend yourself and thanks for your visit :D)
DeleteI wish I could sleep while standing... I'm not even asking to be able to do it on one leg...
ReplyDeleteYour photos are lovely, I felt the ocean and the special smell on the beach. The sky is fantastic - what an interesting cloud formation. Like you I love to look at bird tracks (and all animal tracks for that matter) and I often can't stop myself to take tons of pictures.
ha ha, that'd be good wouldn't it!! Different ;D) No head lolling forward when in a catnap!!
DeleteThanks for your comments and thoughts Carola and I'm so glad you enjoyed everything. Another fellow tracker !! Cheers :D)
Love the beach scenery. Why don't the birds sit down to sleep?
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane :D) Lol, guess they're a hyperactive lot down here ;D)
DeleteThe paths through the beach are always fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThey are Joan and, with the shifting sand, they always look different after a few weeks don't they. Cheers now :D)
Deletewhen i see resting birds standing on one leg, head tucked in...so balanced...i am jealous.
ReplyDeleteSO, are the pictures of the tracks...real or fake?? :) (i too love take track pic's & ID'ing them...also scat/poop...which isn't for the 'normal' person...ha. what's normal, anyway?!)
the shot looking from fence, down beach, to water...is very inviting. especially with no people around!! *cheers*
Hi Laura, thanks for stopping by. Oh yes, those tracks in the photos are real - I took those two a few days ago at the same time as the other photos in the post :D)
DeleteI remember sending you some photos of wombat poo a few years' ago!!
As soon as the days get slightly cooler it really thins the beachgoers out... we like it best then too ;D)
Oh my, it looks so gorgeous there in these photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you EG, I appreciate you taking the time to visit :D)
DeleteI like the one legged balance shots - birds really do have a remarkable sense of balance.
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne

DeleteYes..and I need to know their secret for my Tai Chi moves.... one coming up is called Golden Pheasant Stands on One Leg...hahahhaha....I'm practicing balancing on one leg already.....
