Happy Paint Partying ~ and some randomness thrown in...

Hello!

It's currently pouring with rain here in our little corner of South East Gippsland... much the same around the country too.  In fact, the whole of December's rain is predicted to fall over the next few days.

The garden is soaking it up very happily after all the unexpected heat for this time of year.

I'm a day late, but here are my entries in Paint Party Friday.
Firstly, an acrylic, digital, real eucalyptus leaves Card that I created last week for loved ones, and which I've been adding to over the past few days:

I took this photo just a moment ago - it's soggy outside all right!

A little card I painted a while back for a new addition to a sweet family:

One very soaked Blackbird:

Another card I made for a loved one... a while back.  It needed a Christmassy touch seeing that we're now in December:

The pond is nice and full - in fact, it will definitely overflow and have a lovely refresh of water:

My final painting is one I had done a few years ago - I love blue china - especially in the garden for some reason, so this is what I came up with! :

Thanks so kindly for your visit.
I'm sorry I'm not the most regular blogger or blog-visitor,
however,  I do love it when we catch up with each other.

Little things...

Hello!

It's Epi-time here in our garden.
   [Epiphyllum]

Thanks to the many plants kindly given to us by one of my Sisters, quite a few years ago,  we're enjoying seeing these gorgeous flowers bloom in the early warmth of this month.

Their buds are quite beautiful and they last for quite a few weeks.

Once in bloom they are at their best for a short couple of days.

Here's another 3 and the previous two, which have now exhausted themselves,  can be seen in the far right.
I'll leave them to hang around in that state because they eventually produce small round fruits which taste delicious.

I hope everyone's going along okay at this busy time of year.

It's nice to be able to spend some early hours of the morning in the garden.
Retirement definitely has its advantages :D) Cheers!

Pink Abutilons ~ Happy PPF!

Hello!

More florals from me as my entry for Paint Party Friday:
'Birthday Abutilons'
watercolour, watercolour pencil, acrylic and inkpen on paper

I had a specific idea in mind - pink abutilons.  A birthday card for someone who happened to say she liked them.

.... and so it began:
I can sometimes get away with just taking paint to paper and being happy with the result but, this time, it wasn't happening.
So, after a few tries I felt I really needed to draw an outline first...

Out into the garden to take some reference photos... not pink but that's easily fixed ;D):
As it happened, cuttings of this orange Abutilon were given to me by the very person for whom I was painting the card!

Outline sketch done:

First soft layer of watercolour:

Once dry, then in with more watercolour and the watercolour pencils:

Using the heavy watercolour paper enables lots of wetting and drying without too much buckling or erosion problems:

Then some acrylic for the stamen - I had a bit of trouble with this part and that's where acrylic is great, with all the re-doing I'd built up a bit of texture too (can't really capture it in the photo).
Finally, some outlining with my inkpen - the part I enjoy the most!

Subterfuge!

Hello!
Sharing My Darling hubby's clever little deception of the white cabbage moths.

He printed out pictures of them, which he covered in clear self-adhesive plastic and then glued them to a fine wire....

... the idea being that because Cabbage Moths are territorial, they won't encroach on anothers  'patch'

Hubby likes to garden without using pesticides or herbicides and so this little bit of  fun trickery looks set to work.

I love the look of them too, so it ticks the 'pretty' box as well! 😊

This is his vegie patch, and the long sections of plastic tarp laid down for a few weeks burn any weeds in readiness for planting, laying down of the watering system and then heavy mulching.

Fresh home grown vegies - yum!

A kindness ~ Happy PPF!

Hello!

I'd like to share the art and thoughtfulness of A, our nephew's wife, who lovingly created this beautiful hand-sewn cushion for me:

My photos don't do it justice but the brown and red of the gumnuts are created out of a soft leather and the leaves in fabric.

It was a most beautiful surprise on many levels...

... because A was inspired to create it from a card I had once made for her.

She did an enlarged photocopy of the card and cut the shapes as a template for her piece:
She did several enlarged photocopies and gave me one of those also.

I love my cushion so much!
Every time I see it I smile ....
Thank you Dear A xx

A walk in the garden today

Hello!

It felt like the perfect time to take a little walk around the garden today.  A little rain overnight, and the birds are singing.
Would you like to join me?

Dianthus buds - can't wait for them to open, their perfume is gorgeous.

Sweet little Johnny-Jump-Ups

Blue Duck enjoying his rocky perch

Hooray... herb pot number one coming back to life: parsley and lemon thyme

These pretties are on the wane... still beautiful

What would a walk be without admiring next-door's roses!

Epiphyllums ready to bloom

Bad-tempered Brenda always likes to peck the buttons on my trouser legs.
She gives us enormous eggs though, so we forgive her her crabbiness!

Herb pot number 2: parsley, tarragon and oregano

it's our garden nurturing us"
