10.25x9 watercolor and ink on paper done in 2016 from an older photograph I
shot in downtown Big Spring. Using Lamy Safari pen and grey Noodler's
ink I got the two doors centered then added windows, wood trim, then
bricks. These doors face west and ground floor of the old building was
an antique store with living quarters upstairs. Walls were painted a
pale warm beige unlike the painting showing reddish brown, and no flower
pots or plants exist. This same building houses the former Alberto's Crystal Cafe
to its east side on 2nd Street.

Antique Store Petunias
11x15 watercolor of a downtown Big Spring antique store owned by the Atkins family, complete with potted petunias and a red yucca. This is from a photograph I took there when my studio was next door. A limited palette of cerulean blue, yellow ochre, and Indian red was used. I've painted other versions of this old store and all have found new homes.

The above link was announced on WetCanvas! home page of the 106 watercolorists who were accepted and of that number Chris Beck and I are the lucky Art Colony blog gals. Last August I painted a lovely white domestic shorthair cat with blue eyes named Sinatra, who lives in Tyler, TX, at an antique store called Special Effects on Old Bullard Rd. Mollie Jones, another Colony artist, will tell his owner, Polly Hitt, about it. The original has been sold to a collector in Bangkok, Thailand.

This 15x22 watercolor was featured as a step by step work in progress here on my blog during August 2011 if anyone wants to see its inception and progression. The new book will be published in 2013 by North Light Books, F+W media.

Abilene Antique Quilt
15x11 watercolor of an old worn out white wicker chair with handmade quilt thrown over its back, a scene in Abilene, TX antique store. I was shopping the flea market route along with my youngest brother and cousin when we found this tiny store. Look closely and you can see the chair springs where its seat was.

White Cat "Sinatra" WIP Step 6
Getting more done and nearer to completion in this view with more glazes on the table and correcting curves, shadows, and light reflections from the lamps and his white fur. Typically cluttered with treasures as most antique stores are, the cat seems to know he belongs here.
