Sparrow on Fence with Hydrangeas

12x9 watercolor on Canson Montval 140 lb cold press paper/Daniel Smith paints. I worked from a black and white print and made up the lovely hydrangeas below the barbed wire fence he is on.  Background is nothing more than mixing the colors out on my palette into a grey mess, then applying with very wet 1" flat brush.

Sparrow Charm

10x8 alcohol inks and black India ink on white deli freezer paper, shiny side, over this past weekend.  I had tried an experiment with the India ink and it worked fairly well by putting drops of alcohol ink on top of the dried black then lifting out with a Kleenex.  This gave it a stained glass appearance.

May Sparrow

5.5x8.5 watercolor on Canson 140 lb CP paper, a backing sheet used behind smaller works that had marks all over, done yesterday.  You can see some of the marks including the vertical line in front of the bird.  The marigolds were grown over the winter as were the red geraniums.

Faux Batik Bird in Alcohol Inks

11x8.5 alcohol inks on wax paper done today; drew the sparrow yesterday with black Sharpie and Micron 05 pens. After tearing a sheet of wax paper I crumpled it up, smoothed out, then crumpled again. The ink didn't spread as rapidly as it has done on slick surfaces so it was easier to manage. To paint it I put a white sheet of wc paper behind so it could be seen.  Below are the few supplies needed for this simple batik-appearing work.  My original sketch was placed under wax paper to trace again.  Also used a wooden chopstick laid on its side to spread inks.  A white gel pen used around the sparrow's eye.

SUPPLIES:  Wax paper, black Sharpie fine point, Micron 05 pen, white backing sheet 8.5x11.  (Not shown:  Pinata inks.  I used Lime Green, Rainforest Green, Sapphire Blue, White, Black, Burro Brown, Yellow, Grey)

Sweet Sparrow

7x4 watercolor on Canson 140 lb paper previously used underneath larger works to catch drips or run off colors.  Drawn with Micron 01 pen yesterday this sweet sparrow was sitting on the fence outside my studio kitchen window.  He appears to be sitting on a branch that's a blue line.

Sparrow and Hydrangeas

12x9 watercolor on Canson Montval 140 lb cold press paper/Daniel Smith paints.  Ref courtesy Dominika (WetCanvas.com) for this month's Animal & Wildlife forum challenge.  I had him drawn but not any time to paint.  I worked from a black and white print, and made up the lovely hydrangeas below the barbed wire fence he is on.  Background is nothing more than mixing the colors out on my palette into a grey mess, then applying with very wet 1" flat brush.
